Australia v Bangladesh, Second Test

If you mean better then 298 I'd say no one. But that is the problem with Bangladesh. None of their batsmen have the temprament to play long innings. They play a test like a one day too. In the last match at one point they werre scoring at more then 4 per over. Ofcourse there is nothing wrong with that when Lara, Inzi or Sachin are doing it cause those players all capable of playing long innings. While Bangladesh have scored 298. It's safe to say they will get all out in the 300-320 region or maybe less. Australia will bat tomorrow, and unless Bangladesh bowl as well as they batted, Aussies will bat tomorrow and the day after and give Banglasdeh a lead of 200-250. Now they will still have two more days to bowl out Bangladesh. And even if Bangladesh cross the lead they wont go too far and Aussies can knock that off pretty quick. I'd rather have the scroe 200/3 compared to 298/8.

Ofcourse I am not taking anything away from Bangladesh, they were new at this and I have to admit I wasnt expecting such performance from them. Well played and I hope they keep it up.

Sir jee I was just commenting on your post that said the so called established teams would be proud if they played like that. Just because the other teams have not performed well against Australia recently does not mean they will be proud by this effort. I'll make sure I follow the Aus-Ind matches and we'll see what makes Indians proud. I am sure 289/8 wont make them proud. Its a great effort by Bangladesh but for some other sides it might not be that great as they know they are capable of better. Bangladesh dont know right now what they are capable of, they havent played enough cricket.

Its not about India or England.Point I am making is that many well established team havenot made this kinda score againt AUS in AUS in recent times. So obviously they wil be happy. Most of the teams struggled to come close to 300 marks.

I’m following this series (with more anticipation than the damn England - South Africa Series :stuck_out_tongue: ) and yes Bangladesh are proving themselves - Amazingly Bangladesh have already taken more than 10 Wickets in the series - I didn’t even think they would get one! I thought it would be thr Langer and Hayden show in the Test Series and the Hayden and Gilchrist show in the One-Dayers! And I didn’t think they could push either match into a 4th day! Plus they also did score a fair few runs too - I thought they wouldn’t make it past 100 in any of their innings. Of course having said all that they will lose the Tests 2-0 and get whitewashed in the One Dayers 3-0 too but hey they have certainly done better than I expected.

Anyway enough about them…the Australians really should have done better! Both Langer and Hayden have failed along with Ricky Ponting (though Justin is in great form at the minute and Ricky has been doing well upto now) and Australia have had to rely on Darren Lehmann and their inspirational captain Steven Waugh who achieves yet another milestone! Darren Lehmann has been firing too - I think he has cemented his place in the Test side now and well done to Martin Love for his maident Test Century - I think a few people were beginning to question his place in the side but even with that ton - I think he may lose his place to Damien Martyn when he is fully fit to return to the longer version of the game. Oh and well done to Stuart Macgill - He has spent years in the shadows of Shane Warne and is now finally getting his chance to shine.

Anyway Australia should wrapped up the match and Test Series pretty soon on the 4th day - Just 6 wickets needed so they should be able to get them before lunch - and certainly no question of batting again!

:smokin2:

Damien Martyn will certainly take back his place from Love when he returns. So Love and Stuart Clarke should make the most of the chances they’re given.

It’d be sad for them to wait in the sidelines as long as Lehmann did. Good to see him showing his real worth in the middle after carrying drinks for so long. :k: This Hannan Sarkar dude looks like a composed bat at the top.

BD have certainly exceeded everyone’s expectations. Good to see.

Yeah Bangladesh have certainly done better than I expected them to!

As for Martin Love well he really hasn’t shown the talent and natural ability that Damien Martyn posseses - As for it turning out to a situation like Darren Lehmann’s well all Darren could do was wait for his chance - You could hardly say that Mark Waugh was unworthy of his place now can you?

Good fight by the Bengalis. At least they were able to take the match into the 4th day. Its a slap to the faces of people like Hookes who thought Aussies could finish them off in one day.

Good.....
So england 2 times
Pak ,WI and NZL once.
Now can you tell me how many test that they played to come with this performance.
Let me guess Probably England 10 tests, and WI,PAK NZL 4-5 tests.

There lies the answer??

Bhai saheb I don't disagree with what you said but you also said....

Bangladesh bats better than Pak, Windies: Waugh

AP MONDAY, JULY 28, 2003 01:02:23 PM ]

CAIRNS, Australia: Australian captain Steve Waugh says Bangladesh’s batting belies its ranking as the world’s lowest-ranked cricket team and even rates higher than some recent efforts by the West Indies and Pakistan.
Bangladesh, while losing both Tests by an innings to Australia to take its record to 20 losses and a draw from 21 Tests, earned an admirer in Waugh after Australia completed a win by an innings and 98 runs on Monday inside four days.
“I think their batting was a lot better than some West Indies efforts in recent years and they were better than Pakistan in Sharjah last year,” Waugh said after the match.
Asked if Bangladesh needed to be reassessed after the Tigers made 295 and 163 to Australia’s 556-4 declared, Waugh said: “I think they (critics) need to be fair – it’s easy to write off a side because they lost by an innings but they will improve. They have got a lot of talent.”
Waugh said his side was surprised when Bangladesh progressed to 150-1 on the first day.
**"Day one was a good performance, we expected three or four wickets at least so to be one for 150 on a wicket that was doing a bit was quality batting.
“They were positive, their body language was good, they took some balls on the body… they’re on their way.” **

Bangladesh coach Dave Whatmore was pleased with the improvement shown by his side.
“We stretched the game out to a day longer than we did in Darwin so that’s a way of looking at it - I thought there was definite improvement,” Whatmore said.

A load of clap trap by Steve Waugh. Yes they made more runs than Pakistan did at Sharjah and some of the recent West Indies efforts, but it is very narrow minded to judge the teams on their one off performance. BD has consistentely under performed while the other teams including Australia have underperformed during certain periods. I personally think that BD has performed very well in Australia but will not be convinced as to their talent unless they perform like this on a consistent basis. One right step they have taken is to appoint Dav Whatmore as their coach and probably it will be a different BD team in a years time.

Re: Bangladesh bats better than Pak, Windies: Waugh

Quite true, eventhough their bowlers were annihlated badly, they still went on to bowl alot better then the Indian bowles, took early wickets and surprisingly 2 best batsmen in the team Matthew Hayden and Ricky Ponting didn’t score centuries, the same people who decimated the Indian bowlers in WC and in the last test series.

Well they batted ok relatively speaking, but 20 losses on the trot tells it's own story. They would probably still lose to Kenya though which puts things in perspective.

Quite true as well, doing well against Australia doesn't change the overall image of Bangladesh, even ZImbabwe many times have stood very high against Australia but have lost badly to avg teams like England. They are going to have to perform consistently to be able to be recognized as a test playing nations.
I still don't think they deserve their test status, I am pretty sure if Whatmore coached the Kenyan test teams, they would have done the same or even better.
