Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

^Yeah, we have to be reasonable. As disappointing as it is, no players hsould have to put their lives in uncertainty for a game.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

That statement is sau aanay such and after today's bombings in Lahore, the Aussies are perhaps justified in postponing the tour. It only takes one religious nut to ruin it for everyone and it seems there are many such brain-washed fundamentalist nuts now roaming the streets of Pakistan. Now every security installation (military, police) is a potential target not to mention the civilian passers-by who often get caught up in the blast.

I am just a bit concerned about the precedent it would set. We can now almost forget about seeing visiting teams from Australia, NZ, England and South Africa in the near future. WI might tour if persuaded enough. The only two countries that I see touring Pakistan if given satisfactory security guarantees are India and SLA.

And since the bombings will never stop as long as our troops are still in FATA, the rest will just keep using bombings as a valid and justifiable excuse to avoid touring Pakistan

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

It will not stop even after troops are out of FATA. It will not stop until sharia is imposed. I think Pakistan should just stop playing international cricket.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Did you forget about Bangladesh and mighty Zimbabwe?

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Disappointments of cricket fans aside (and I am one), this is perhaps the right decision. The two bomb blasts in Lahore yesterday are a terrible reminder that Pakistani security agencies need to step up law enforcement significantly, before our major cities are considered safe for travel by high profile foreign teams. Extremely sad day for Pakistani cricket. But to keep things in perspective, my deepest sympathies are with all those who lost their lives or got injured in the terrible and senseless bombings that are happening all over Pakistan. May Allah protect all of us! Ameen.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

excellent decision by CA. :k:

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Can't really blame the Australians for cancelling the tour. It only takes one nut case to bring further embarrassment and shame to the country and its standing not to mention the carnage and mayhem it will leave behind. If God forbid the Australian team is targeted and some of them die no one will tour Pakistan for years to come.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Well after the bomb blasts in Lahore, I have to change my opinion on this. I think It is better they stay at home. One player dead and we might loose the cricket licence to host games forever.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Yes we should beef up security to protect our citizens from these fanatics but there is little one can do if a nutcase decides to ram his explosive-laden bike or car into a military or police truck or straight thru the gates of one of the buildings and blows himself up in the process. People who are brain-washed to such an extent that they are prepared to commit suicide bombings A, need help & B, are almost impossible to stop

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

^^ that will never happen until all Pakistanis start to realize that Islamic radicalism is a major thread and stop blaming America for all the problems in Pakistan

I am infact glad this happened

100 Pakistanis being blown up does not effect an ordinary Pakistani

If a ordinary Pakistani cannot watch porn on his Internet, go watch a cricket game or cannot watch a bollywood movie then its a problem and will be compelled to take action

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

^Yea, lets blame Iran and the Axis of Evil. The menace to world peace. America is so innocent and is protecting us from all evil.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

No I did n’t. Malik would probably be the most disappointed if Zimbabwe did not tour in future!

Rumour is Bangladesh are coming next month for an ‘absorbing’ series of 5 ODIs and a twenty-20 game. but still no test matches

ab naubat yahan tak aa gaye hai k sirif minnows se khelna par raha hai :smack:

The more we play against these weaker teams the more we will come down to their level

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Suicide after suicide bombing, when will this stop? We haven’t seen so many suicide bombings even in Israel/Palestine, where they have have reason to do something like that. :smack:

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

I am not so sure I share this helplessness. Yes, we are now veering into a non-cricketing discussion, but lets take this discussion in a logical direction. If mods feel, they can split it up. These suicide bombers get explosives from somewhere. Most likely these explosives are coming from our frontier law-less areas. Our security agencies should be keeping an eye on whats going on and choke the supply of such explosives. They also need to infilterate organizations that are committed to harming Pakistan and Pakistanis in the name of global jihad. Brain-washed suicide bombers should be caught in their steps and not allowed to have access to explosives. I am sure our security agencies can do a much better job in preventing such tragedies, rather than just "investigating" them after the fact and rub their hands to say "we can't stop a moron".

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Yes I know we are digressing slightly but I shall try and keep it short. Security forces could perhaps do a better job to minimise this threat (and they probably are already). Without their efforts we might see even more killings etc. Just before the recent tragic blasts in Lahore they arrested three people but it appears some of these terrorists somehow managed to by-pass the system and were able to complete their 'mission'. It would almost be impossible to ensure fool-proof security since weapons are readily available in our North Western province and there is no shortage of brain-washed individuals esp. in our tribal belt and among the masses. First and foremost we need to educate the masses and target their minds from a very young age. Teach them that such thinking is abnormal & unhealthy and suicide bombing is fundamentally evil and a sin in Islam. That suicide cannot be justified by one's circumstances, upbringing, pent-up feelings, grievances, sense of deprivation etc. So that people who have even access to such explosives are not brain-washed easily and think twice before carrying out such terrible crimes. Madrassahs (a lot still needs to be done) should be reformed and self-styled mullahs who eulogise or indirectly support suicide bombers in their various sermons must be quickly taken to task.

Though the thread is about Australia not touring Pakistan and this above news is about Champions trophy, buttttt, would Australia refuse to come to Pakistan for ICCCT? All games are in Pakistan, would ICC go ahead with the tournament?

I know, its too early, but the way things have been in past the chances are that things are not likely to improve drastically enough to have no suicide bombings in few weeks prior to ICCCT.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Hmm....such a huge event like ICCCT is going to start in pakistan .Agreed ,it is only in September .But how can they provide such enormous security for all those teams .Very difficult and responsible task for pakistan authority.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Australia to tour Pakistan in 2009 and 2010 (CricInfo)

Nasim Ashraf: “…the PCB is very pleased that the Australian team will come to play in Pakistan.”

Cricket Australia: “We’re pleased to have reached agreement to travel to Pakistan to complete the postponed matches and to play in them in Australia…”

Two contradicting statements from the reporters?

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

Yeah, sure, in year 2009 Afghanistan and Iraq will be democratic country, Taliban/Alqaida will be flying kites and Australia will tour Pakistan.

Re: Australia unlikely to tour Pakistan

:D
.............and democracy will also be prospering in Pakistan.
