Australia Post WC...

It seems as though the Aussies are probably going to win the World Cup again…

It is however important to note that they have a seriously old team and that there could be a few more retirements after the final…

Hayden, Gilchrist, McGrath, Hogg and we’ve already had Langer and Warne…

i think in test cricket they will especially miss Warne…McGill is 35 aswell i think and there are no spinners which come to mind as possible replacements for him…

Gilchrist is another one that is difficult to replace…

McGrath also will be difficult to replace initially cos Tait is erratic…and Lee also…Clark is their control bowler but they will certainly miss McGrath…

This could be a good opportunity to narrow the gap post World Cup for everyone else…

Re: Australia Post WC…

Worry not brother, this is not Pakistan we’re talking about who doesn’t prepare replacements until after the players retire. This is Australia. I’m sure they have similarly talented, if not better, players waiting to join the squad. Look at Michael Clark and Hussey.

But doesn’t hurt to dream about beating Australia one day. Kinda sad though that we’re now waiting for their players to retire to have a real chance of beating them :hehe:

Re: Australia Post WC...

^^ yup....

Re: Australia Post WC...

We can all keep on dreaming. Retirements or no retirements post WC, I expect the Aussies to rule the world for quite sometime still and to never slump to the same depths as WI because their first class structure is very competitive. Many of my friends were saying exactly the same thing after 2003 WC but look where the Aussies are now and where we are at the moment.

Re: Australia Post WC...

they have immense talent in their system
hussey, tait, clark, watson are there to stay post WC, no doubt we'll some more explosive players hitting the scene soon after

they've set extremely high standards and they keep improving their quality as a cricket team, always leaving the other nations to play catch up

and you have to love how they stay on top all the time, theres a lot of pressure being the #1 team and you always have to improve, like i said, they keep raising standards, other good teams like south africa can take them over (like they did b4 WC) in "rankings" but i doubt they can hold on to that #1 spot

Re: Australia Post WC...

Ok i think they'll do alright batting wise but does anyone know any replacements for Warne who is a once in a lifetime bowler and Gilchrist who is one of the best keeper batsmen around...i reckon their pace attack will be fine and so will their top order...but Warne is a big loss...

Re: Australia Post WC...

^^ Yes, Warne and McGrath are once in a life time kind of bowlers and will be very difficult to replace, so their bowling dept. might not be as effective as it was in the late 90's and early 2000's. But then again, with Brett Lee, Tait etc. it's not going to be too ineffective either.
