Aussie great joins Pakistan

Former Australian captain Greg Chappell has agreed a contract to coach at Pakistan’s national academy.

“We have the option of utilising his expertise whichever way we want for 30 days in a year,” said a Pakistan Cricket Board spokesman.

It is not the first time Pakistan have used overseas experts to work with their youngsters - Geoff Boycott made two coaching trips in 2000-01.

The PCB is also hoping to recruit South African Barry Richards.

Chappell made 7,110 runs in 87 Tests, including 24 centuries, and 2,331 runs in 74 one-day appearances.

His Test average of 53 is second only to Don Bradman (99.9) for Australia, if members of the current side are excluded.

He was linked with the job of coaching the Pakistan national team three years ago, but decided to stay in state cricket with South Australia.

“The board has also signed up Australian bowling coach Daryl Foster for this purpose, while negotiations are on with (former South Africa Test batsman) Barry Richards,” Hasan added.

what is a 30 day stint spread over a year going to do for our batsmen who have the most fundamental technical flaws and basic temperament problems? they need proper full-time professional coaches for batting, bowling, fielding, spoken English, self-esteem, confidence, not faking injuries, etc. over-priced quickies by foreign experts isn't going to do anything for Pak cricket except deplete its coffers.

if the PCB had learnt any lessons from the recent series, they would be looking for a full time physio and trainer right now. iinstead they're wondering if our two-timing CEO should still be allowed to run amok and make a mockery of Pak cricket.

newsflash: the PCB is run by a bunch of loonies.

it's all good employing new foreign coaches and no doubt greg chappell is a proven performer he had a glittering career but the main prob' isn't with the coaches pakistan have employed over the years, the main prob' is with our players who r basically not willing to learn.

for instance, shahid afridi had many probs' with javed miandad, miandad wanted him to change his approach to certain shots and afridi blatantly ignored him on the spot on many occasions.

gone r the days when players of was and waq's ability used to come to the ground and put 110% effort in day in day out and they reaped rewards when the played for pak and all that hard work actually payed off, with both players achieving so much status.

i hope this thing makes a difference it doesnt smells like it will !

Sidhu can help with the "spoken English" part.
Samby, the situation is not as bad as you make it out to be, it is worse.

man I'd rather that our boys go mute than pick up English from Sidhu. y'know his stuff was almost slightly funny way back when. now it is stupid. translating literally Urdu/Hindi idioms into English is just not funny anymore man.

regarding the situation, it has the potential to turn into a crisis, IMO given the complete ineptitude of the head honchos of the PCB.
