Westpac Stadium, Wellington (day/night)
19 February 2005 (50-over match)
Australia 236/7 (50 ov)
New Zealand 13/0 (4.1 ov)
I just opened this thread to say that, umpire Billy ( NZ) should seriously think about his umpiring skills. He didnt give a clear caught behind and a plumb legbefore against AUSTRALIA… Australia is high on good luck this season and now the local umpire is supporting them.
No one will believe that,
Gilchrist made a stumping off the bowling of McGrath on a ball which was traveling at 136 Km/H
42.6 McGrath to McMillan, OUT: well the standing up pays-off big as
planned, McMillan went for a huge drive off and fast one ont eh
off and missed, Gilchrist brilliantly stumped him
McCullum in after that 136kph ball stumping, amazing!
What a match. I saw the last four overs and McGrath was superb. Australian batting once again failed under pressure but so did NewZealand's.
For those who are surprised at Gilchrist's brilliant stumping; Geraint Jones stumped Andrew Hall off Kabir Ali's 135 kmph in the second onedayer of the recently concluded oneday series.
This series is going to be exciting to say the least.
Ponting calls for increased security after crowd trouble
Ricky Ponting, Australia’s captain, has called for an urgent review of security measures at grounds in New Zealand after some of his players were hit by missiles thrown from the crowd during the first one-day international of the current series at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium, which Australia won by 10 runs.
Play was held up a number of times after some of the Australian fielders - among them Glenn McGrath and Simon Katich - told the umpires they had been hit by plastic bottles.
“Someone’s going to get hurt,” said Ponting at the after-match press conference. “A full plastic bottle hitting someone in the eye or the back of the head - we don’t want that. You have to have more security guys around the players on the boundary. They’ve got to have some sort of power - get the police involved, whatever.”
Five years ago Steve Waugh, when he was Australia’s captain, threatened to take his players off the field after similar crowd disturbances in New Zealand.
When I watched the highlights, couldnt believe Hayden's luck. He was given two reprieves by Billy Bowden. One clear nick and one LBW. Aussies are surely the best team but their players are getting some decisions in their favor unnecessarily and evertime opponents are left wondering.
Australia sealed the five-match series against New Zealand with two games to play thanks to another strong all-round performance at Auckland. Brett Lee provided the early destruction as they defended 264, and Andrew Symonds lined up two crucial run outs to seal the 86-run victory.
