I don’t know how many of you have witnessed this in your lives but let’s say the child of a friend or family member is acting up and the parent tries to soothe them by saying, “Woh dekho __aunty kya kahein gi? k __ ganda bacha hai?!”
Not that I’m criticizing anybody nor is it a big problem…its just I always find those however brief moments quite awkward where I don’t know if I should do or say something or just ignore.
For parents who do this…does this really work to calm the child down? and how do you expect the person to react when you mention them in that sense?
Ahh I always hate it when mothers say that to their kids in front of me! Then the kid always pauses and looks at you, as if for confirmation that you really are a horrible scary lady who will eat/beat/terrify them. Its soo awkward. Please, if you child is acting up, then deal with it properly, dont make me into a monster to scare them into behaving! I dont know what the mother expects you to do when she says this, perhaps she wants you to make scary eyes at the kid to back her up. I just give the kid a smile
I've had quite a few people do this with their kids when i'm around lol. Always makes me feel awkward. Particularly cos most of the time its with people that i don't know that well and vice versa.
Haha. Im always the scary aunty who will 'tell off them' when they don't eat. Mostly they say 'she's a teacher and she's going to tell your teacher'. I've had parents tell me at parents evening that they threaten their children using my name. One even told his daughter that he had my mobile number and was going to call me to tell me what she was doing.
Usually at family events I sit on the kids table anyway and feed them. It's fun, we sing songs about the goodness of veg and the evilness of fizzy drinks, all the right foods get eaten.
