"Aunty kya kahein gi????"

I don’t know how many of you have witnessed this in your lives but let’s say the child of a friend or family member is acting up and the parent tries to soothe them by saying, “Woh dekho __aunty kya kahein gi? k __ ganda bacha hai?!”

Not that I’m criticizing anybody nor is it a big problem…its just I always find those however brief moments quite awkward where I don’t know if I should do or say something or just ignore.

For parents who do this…does this really work to calm the child down? and how do you expect the person to react when you mention them in that sense?

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

lol i feel like usually they are just trying to distract the baby.. I never react to that!! I just pretend like nothing happened :D

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

err its usually at least 2-3 years old and up...not a baby :p

Yeah I just ignore it...except for one time when someone said something incredibly stupid...and I reacted. :D

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

lol even you are baby to me :p

and when I see you with my kids, I will make sure that I do the same until you react!!

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

It beats "Varna Jinn baba aa jaye ga"

Re: “Aunty kya kahein gi???”

^ what if aunty IS the jinn baba :teary1:

Gia…:rotfl:

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

Or that gabbar Singh aaa jaye ga. Well I think it comes from the philosophy that kids are concerned more about what others think of them.

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

one of my frnd do this n her baby stop crying at once it really works for her :)

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

I use it for ppl that have some nfluence on him....and it works wonderfully.

Re: “Aunty kya kahein gi???”

i threaten to tell her teacher n it works like magic :hypo:

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

im usually the aunti/baaji that the kids get threatened with....

"you better finish ur plate otherwise i'll tell afshan phuppo!"

"baji afshan is coming...make sure you clean your mess!"

oh gosh...lol

Re: “Aunty kya kahein gi???”

^ lol…thats what im talkin about afshi!

this relative of mine was like… " u better stop crying or Sara aunty will eat you"
I told the kid to keep crying and acting up. :halo:

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

lol sara.

Re: “Aunty kya kahein gi???”

lol to me, this is acceptable. calling your kid a ganda bacha, however, is not. sometimes, i really don’t like the way urdu sounds.

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

Ahh I always hate it when mothers say that to their kids in front of me! Then the kid always pauses and looks at you, as if for confirmation that you really are a horrible scary lady who will eat/beat/terrify them. Its soo awkward. Please, if you child is acting up, then deal with it properly, dont make me into a monster to scare them into behaving! I dont know what the mother expects you to do when she says this, perhaps she wants you to make scary eyes at the kid to back her up. I just give the kid a smile

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

Hmm.... Ppl ive scared my kid always knew what to do.... No onw is saying turn into a witch....

Example

Midget, eat ure food...aunty dekh rahi hai...unko ghussa ajayega

Aunty stares back and says : haan... Chalo...jaldi khao... Shabash... (in a strict voice)

Its not the scary face the kid is waiting for...its just tje idea os a stranger or someone he isnt AS close to ...telling them off. Thats it.

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

^ That make sense.

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

I've had quite a few people do this with their kids when i'm around lol. Always makes me feel awkward. Particularly cos most of the time its with people that i don't know that well and vice versa.

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

Khawa just a question...did that aunty have kids of her own?

I think those who odn't have kids may feel awkward because they don't know hwo to act...vs people kids of their own?

Re: "Aunty kya kahein gi????"

Haha. Im always the scary aunty who will 'tell off them' when they don't eat. Mostly they say 'she's a teacher and she's going to tell your teacher'. I've had parents tell me at parents evening that they threaten their children using my name. One even told his daughter that he had my mobile number and was going to call me to tell me what she was doing.

Usually at family events I sit on the kids table anyway and feed them. It's fun, we sing songs about the goodness of veg and the evilness of fizzy drinks, all the right foods get eaten.
