When I was seeing potentials(rishtas) I noticed something peculiar. The guys I was seeing tended to find my facial features decent enough, but the aunties on the other hand had some hesitation or objection. Why? They thought I did not have an innocent/pyari/masoom face. As to what kind of a face that was, I didnt have a completely clear idea, but I made a guess. In fact, some aunties completely rejected me after seeing my picture based on the fact that I didnt look masoom or perhaps "young’ to them! I was young, as I was 20 or so, but people sometimes tell me that I dont have a masoom face/look. I’m guessing this was the objection of the aunties? I found out the reason in some instances because the guy told me, or someone in the guys family besides the mother told me. I wonder if this is some sort of widespread bias?!
It probably sounds ridiculous, but its very true. It didnt only happen with me, but with some friends also. If you look a certain way, sometimes many things are assumed. Just really weird! Because of those incidents, I started feeling bad that I didnt have such a face!!! I used to wonder sometimes that why do I have such a face(that ppl say) when my personality isnt as such.
Now I am over that, but it certainly got to me back then. I still dont comprehend it!
What do you think about this? Happened with you or someone you know? Is there some sort of bias?! Whyyyyyyyyy?!?!?!

Besides, the mere idea of judging a girl on her face is ridiculous! The facial features that Allah SWT gives his servants have nothing to do with their personality!
Yeah, this is yet another stupid desi thing. My mother also believes in that 'masoomiat' thing as do lots of other aunties I know. The fairness issue is equally or even more important when considering a rishta.
Munni, as long as you know inside that you're a good, decent person it's fine. A lot of really masoom-looking girls are the complete opposite of what they look like.
As for me, I don't know what I look like. The more prospective mothers-in-law I can ward off for the meantime, the better!
I disagree almost completely. The original face is given by Allah, but the other part (make-up, hair-style, piercings blah blah) is entirely man-made and can give a lot of clues. Ever seen a goth?
I thought "masoom" translates to "she will not bug us that much later on".
The opposite is "buhat taiz lagti hai", meaning "hamein tignee ka naach nachayay gi ... aur larkay ko apni muthi mein karr lay gi, hamara larka to itna shareef seedha saadha hai.. chalo bhagoo!"
Extreme versions of "taiz" are "chalaak", "kharaantt" and "character ki achi nahi".
