Au Pairs

Has anyone ever been or employed an au pair?

Please share your (hopefuly positive) experiences.

Nope. Sowwy.

I hope it is someone you know through a reference though. Its risky elsewise.

Matty have u been or have u employed?

I have and have nothing but positive things to say about them.

Kaleem, I believe shehreen is more interested in how the nanie was with the children and not you.

ooops, my bad. On a serious note, I was talking about the nanny with the kids.

o bhai. not nani or nanie..but nanny..

sara mazza kirkiraa kar diya..

I have one now..two days a week. She is fantastic…it is important to check references and actually see her work with other kids first. We were in the apartment when she was handling the baby the first couple of days.

You have to set the parameters..make sure that the person is easy to coomunicate with ( I sooo wanted this brazilian lady  but wifey wanted the Trinidadian girl), can actually offer solutions rather than saying yes maam or sir all the time.

Thanks for the feedback Matsui. Can I just ask, does she do any other chores or is it all strictly looking after baby? Also does she live-in?

No, she is not a live-in. She is there from 8-6:30 pm. Her sole task is to take care of the baby. We have a cleaning lady that comes in twice a week, as you can imagine, the apartment gets to be a bit of the mess with me and the baby partying all the time. :D

Okay last question for now.......did you find her through an agency or did you steal her from someone else? Also does she have a sister?

No Agency...we didn't want to go through the tax issues. My wife got her through a friend whose kids are now a little bit older and don't need her services full time.

AI would recommend it you are going to go this route is try someone out for a couple of days a week. That is what we are doing now..so there is no separation anxiety along with total dependence.

Where do you live?

Don't have any tax issues to worry about but most probably would be through an agency, but its an agency that has come highly recommended and has an excellent reputation. No Louise Woodwards or anything.

Anyway its just an idea we're mulling over at the moment. Nothing definite.

A colleague of mines has 3 small kids and he has had au pair girls for the kids, I think he had some good and also some bad experiences.

Matsui, what u have is not a au pair, but a normal nanny/babysitter for the kid. The difference with an au pair is that the au pair lives with you in the same house all the time, u would need a seperate guest room and bath room for her, she mostly comes from another country and has a contact for 6 months which can be extended for another 6 months. (something like this)

Saadia, you have a keen grasp on the obvious. Maybe you should moderate this forum.

Vaisey, don’t hate the player…hate the game :french:

Matsui, is your wify going to work again, thats why u need a nanny ? just wondering.

No that is not the reason. The reason is that she can get some help durin ghte day.

I do know of some au pairs that don't live-in. But I guess you would be paying them extra in which case you might as well get a proper nanny.
