I have been planning to transfer my credits to a reputable US University. Have completed 2 years of study at University of Lahore, Islamabad Campus.
I would like to know about the semester system in the US. In a year, do you people have 2, 4 months semester with a summer break. Or two semesters of 6 months duration, with no summer break? I would like to know this because when I told my examination department head abt my plans, he told me that you should convert your transcripts into six months per semester because that is the system prevailent in the US. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I have shortlisted the following universities. Listed on the order of preference. Again any helpful comment (pros/cons) is welcomed.
(17) University of Texas–Austin (McCombs)
(19) Ohio State University (Fisher)
(37) Arizona State University–Main Campus (Carey)
(38) Michigan State University (Broad)
Numbers in brackets represent respective Uni. ranking, according to USnews. I've chosen public schools only because I belive they're relatively cheaper, and easier to get into. You still end up with a good enough institution, too.

There isn't a set US system. However, the 4 month (13-14 week) semester, 2 semesters per academic year with a break in the summer is standard for most of the known universities. Have you applied to the universities yet or are waiting? I would strongly recommend that you discuss transfer of credit policies because you would be considered an international student. I know for a fact that Universities tend to give less transfer credits or require you to repeat courses even if your a domestic student, so I would be very concerned about how many credits will be transferred.
As for the schools, I would recommend that you not worry too much about the USNews rankings. All of the universities you have chosen are public, yet they will charge an out of state tuition rate for you..So just look over the fees before you readily commit to a school. I personally would throw in a few good private schools. For me, it was very important to be in a major financial center like New York, Boston or Los Angeles, because jobs and internships tend to be plentiful and relatively easy to obtain. Although the cost of living is higher.
I am not really sure if any of the schools you listed are Business powerhouses..UT-Austin is the best division in the state. For example, University of Michigan is certainly a better school than Mich. State. U of Arizona is better than Arizona State. Case Western (in Ohio) is better than OSU. Basically, what I am trying to say is that the schools you chose may be decent but I can name better known universities in the same state. I mean, you are coming all this way from Pakistan to study here and I think you would get a better return on your investment if you considered how the universities are percieved.
I went to New York University (Stern) for my undergrad, so if you have any particular questions about that particular school, feel free to ask. Also if you need any more info, drop me a PM or ask right here.
