I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibilities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.
Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.
Today I can feel sad that I don’t have more money or I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.
Today I can grumble about my health or I can rejoice that I am alive.
Today I can lament over all that my parents didn’t give me when I was growing up or I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.
Today I can cry because roses have thorns or I can celebrate that thorns have roses.
Today I can mourn my lack of friends or I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover new relationships.
Today I can whine because I have to go to work or I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.
Today I can complain because I have to go to school or eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.
Today I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body and soul.
Today stretches ahead of me, waiting to be shaped. And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.
What today will be like is up to me. I get to choose what kind of day I will have!
excellent illustration of what its like for people who have attitude going to work.
coming into one's work should ideally be something really energizing for people. day in and out - maybe not, but more or less, over all, it should be a nice feeling in people, about their work.
it is essential to keep one's work related and personal life related stressors apart.
being able to balance due rewards at the right time, with fulfilling expected and reasonable job demands can be satisfying in and of themselves.
reasons for someone to seriously think to move out of one's current position will either entail a better pay scale or prestige related to a better title.
yet, being mindful of one's personal life circumstance can also be a factor that will present a real challenge for an other wise honest and hard working professional to decide about. so on and so forth.
it is indeed for the most part about the attitude one carries.
^ Well said sister. JazakAllah khair for the kind words of encouragement.
When dealing with a situation, we must try and find the good in it. We must focus on the good; and not dwell on the negative. Depending on the situation, one sometimes have to look hard to find the good but it is there. By doing this one start changing attitudes to a positive attitude rather than a negative attitude. "You can't change other people, you can only change yourself." So if someone tells you that you have a poor attitude, don't try and convenience them otherwise as you won't change their mind. When someone tells us this we have a tendency to take a defensive attitude, instead focus on how you can change. You will end up becoming very frustrated if you try and change other people. Remember, you can only change yourself and how you deal with that individual.
Today I can complain because the weather is rainy or I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.
haha, that's one thing i will never be able to do! after 8 months of cold and wet, it's june, it should be warm and sunny, but it's just been pouring down with rain for the past week.
Our nature usually seems to be more inclined towards negative thoughts and feelings, but usually that is because of the "waswasa" (false doubts) created in our mind by devil. If Allah (Swt) closes one door for us, He also opens a number of doors of blessings for us which we can see through the "Noor" of our heart (Hikmah) only if we seek Allah's blessings and try our level best to remain positive.
Sister, though I am not an expert on this subject, I would try my level best to briefly share what I sincerely feel about such a situation and what I have learned from pious people like you.
When our heart feels that the situation is negative for us in every aspect we might consider few facts:
Any mental or physical pain is just a weakness leaving our body...to make us stronger & prepare us to face any tough task that is waiting for us in the near future. I've personally found, the ones that have been through much difficulties and pains in their own lives, begin to see the world in a different way. Compassion, understanding, love, and forgiveness can be found more readily in these individuals. The kindest people I know are the ones who have suffered much in life. Perhaps because they realize how tenuous and fragile life truly is.
Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks? The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come. When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it.** The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.** When the storms of life come upon us - and all of us will experience them - we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief towards Allah. The storms do not have to overcome us. We can seek Allah's power to lift us above them. Allah enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storm. Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them.

how inspirational!!! " Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them."
^ JazakAllah khair for a beautiful sharing. I once read this quote somewhere, felt like sharing here.
[quote]
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that!"
