Re: Attack on pindi madressa
It is clear why it is happening. One group curses the Sahaba and the other group responds, disproportionately. I had heard Shia’s curse the Sahaba but those that said it I suspected had a bias. Now people on this forum say it as well. I am not in any way saying this violence against the Shia community is acceptable as words should be battled with words.
If the case of Shia people cursing the Sahaba is true then why do they do this? Why cant they stop? There is some quite clear differences and controversies which no one is willing to address and want to bury under the carpet hoping it will go away. There is no real debate about the reality of the sectarian differences. I do not know many Shias personally but like with any religion we gloss over our controversies so if I asked them I am sure they would give me the answer I would love to hear.
I personally do not agree with these processions - why any one wants to walk around a city beating themselves, spilling blood, creating quite a horrid smell (the latter from what I have experienced) is any body’s guess? I wanted to watch one 10 years ago but I missed the procession but arrived at a street with the potholes full of blood. I would not want that anywhere near my house.
If the procession is deliberately going past a Sunni mosque and stopping there, then the Sunnis should not take the bait! They should ignore it as the people will have to move on eventually. If the Sunnis start abusing then the Shias should not take the bait and think we are better than this. Restraint from both sides has been necessary.
More has to be done to tackle the militant groups and their access to arms. SSP, LEJ etc need to have their power links cut.
The reality is there are quite a few Muslim sects out there and some have probably stepped out of the fold of Islam. The differences within the sects are quite huge and the practises seem contrary to the Quran and Hadith. They cannot all be Muslim frankly. It appears since the 70’s extremists in both Sunni and Shias are pushing the sides apart. The questions you ask cannot be asked without asking questions such as “why do some Sunnis consider Shias such that they want to kill them?”, “do Shias really curse the Sahaba?”, “who made SSP/LEJ the custodians of Islam?” “how do the practises and beliefs differ of the two?” There are many questions I want answered to and without an open debate these issues will not go away.
