It was an uncommon phenomenon at that time that a singer who has not appeared on TV, radio, or films gets popular from Karachi to Khyber through Audio Cassettes. Atta Ullah was the first who did it. He was a very popular singer and despite criticism, was widely heard everywhere. He had perhaps a failed love affair and used to narrate it in various forms in his songs. Thus a lot of youth would think that he is, in fact, depicting their emotions.
Atta Ullah kept releasing cassette after cassette at a prolific pace and even today, any of his new number gets sold in high volume.

umm, not really Munya. His punjabi songs have quite hyperactive upbeat tunes whereas his urdu songs mostly have a melancholic touch to them.
I would say Hamesh Reshmya sounds the same in almost all the tracks he has made so far and yet the people are crazy about him (wonder why?).
