Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

Atrocities on Dalits ‘on rise’ during the NDA rule
Patna | August 25, 2006 4:47:01 PM IST

The Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) today alleged that atrocities on the oppressed sections of the society are on rise as the NDA government has failed to provide justice to them.

Talking to mediapersons here, state LJP spokesperson Sanjay Singh accused the NDA government of patronising the criminals.

''Unless government stops patronising the criminals, it will be impossible to check the rising crime graph in the state,‘’ he added.

Even before the Lakhisarai rape victims got justice, fresh rape cases in Gaya, have proved the tall claims of good governance of the NDA to be wrong, Mr Singh quipped.
The LJP leader demanded thorough probe into the atrocities on the underprivileged class during the last few days. Compensation of Rs five lakh should be given to the families of the victims, he added.

Now this is what is going on a world’s largest secular country (Who claims itself to be)… The killers are patronised by the government and then they say we are the secular nation…

How big a lie is it? :grumpy:

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

quite big....

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

I would like to hear what the indian have to say about this.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

This the real India.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

Missing in Action.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits ‘on rise’

What do you expect Indians to say ? The caste system & its fallout are one of the biggest issues modern India is dealing with. However isolated incidents in a country of a billion plus people are not really an indicator of anything.

One Mukhtar Mai in Pakistan does not mean that all women whose brothers have an affair will be gang raped. Or does it ?:naraz:

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

How so, is this an isolated case? We've been hearing these types of news coming from India for a long time.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

Hindustan will never be civilised unless they're ruled by a Pakistani Empire.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

Sure, may be you have heard of a 100, probably 1000 cases ?? My point is that its statistically insignificant in a population of 1 billion plus.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

^^ Its statistically insignificant ONLY if all of those billion plus people have been seen on the media. You cannot just assume that its an isolated case unless it's opposite is appearing on the media in large numbers. What you should be comparing here is these types of news with those types of news which show how Dalits are prospering (which we do not see very often).

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

Thats probably because you only choose to read/hear what suits your anti-India idelology. Do you know how many MPs/MLAs in India are from the Dalit/backward classes ? What about the 20-40% reservations in different govt. colleges/jobs ? Did you know that K.R.Narayanan (ex-president of India) was from the backward class ? There is a multitude of such cases.

I am sure you understand that news media runs on sensationalism. And "10 Dalits killed in XYZ region" is a far better news story than "XYZ Dalit got a great job"

Re: Atrocities on Dalits ‘on rise’

This story from BBC answers your questions -

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4773425.stm

Per BBC *"As India’s economic horizons expand over the next two decades, perhaps this shift from caste to commerce will continue to bring about fundamental change in Indian society. *
By then, India’s economy is expected to be one of the three largest in the world, and by 2050, its expected to be larger than the US economy. "

^ A BhaRati quoting another BhaRati to prove the point about BhaRat.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

^And a jealous Pakistani as usual trying to pull India down :D

Re: Atrocities on Dalits ‘on rise’

There are such issues still persisting. But things are changing for the better. Atrocities against Dalits were much more two decades ago than what it is today. Again in a very big country changes don’t occur at a lightening speed. Gradual changes are taking place.

Today almost 25% of the Indian parliament is represented by Dalits. Several constituencies in India have been exclusively reserved for Dalits. In the govt jobs and colleges there is reservation for their fair representation. Several types of businesses (like gas station licence) in particular areas have been exclusively reserved for Dalits. On top of it, if a Dalit approaches a court and makes allegation then the court system automatically considers the accused as guilty and requires the accused to convince beyond all doubt to the court that he or she is not guilty.

So a powerful system has indeed been established to make sure that atrocities against Dalits be avoided by all means. But no system can be perfect and so such things do happen occasionally and the media news provides an important feedback to make the system better and better to prevent such recurrences.

But unless the root cause is addressed this problem will remain. The solution in my opinion is that the Hindu society must scrap its caste system and a brahmin girl must be willing to marry a Dalit boy or a Dalit girl must be accepted by a brahmin boy. But this social change is unlikely to happen so soon. That’s the reason that Hindu society is a divided and fractured society and that’s the reason that VHP’s dream of making India a Hindu country is not materialising.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits ‘on rise’

Jealous or not, it does not make sense to quote a BhaRati eulogizing his own country, and expect neutral observers to buy that.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

It was on a neutral media website - BBC. And no Tom, Dick or Harry can write for the BBC.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits ‘on rise’

Sad story of 100s of millions of low caste dalits

Re: Atrocities on Dalits ‘on rise’

Yeah, but the difference between us is that social ill arent swept under the carpet in Pakistan… In India, you guys walk around with this hlier then thou attitude which we on this forum are more then happy to alleviate.

Re: Atrocities on Dalits 'on rise'

Is social ills were swept under the carpet, you wouldnt have heard about it. Why dont you think before you talk/type ?
