Atkins diet

Has anyone done this?

Im sure it makes you lose weight so am tempted to just do for 2 weeks…

My mother did this for a month quite a few years back and lost loads of weight…but then one day she fainted…its coz she suffers from hi BP and ended up cutting out all salt from her diet which ended her up with low BP…other than that she was fine…

anyone else tried this? Has it worked for them? Any side effects?

Ive heard its not very good for you, but 2 weeks should give you a jump start right and have no major effect?

Re: Atkins diet

For two weeks?? You might show some results on the scale but you'll gain it back very quickly, plus the induction period is more like the dehydration of the body. I give the atkins diet two thumbs down.

The only diet out there that really works is 'DONT BINGE AND EXCERCISE'.

I know your right, but thats going to take some time...and also I hardly ever have time to work out after work....and if i do then i just lack energy...i know..im very bad! :(

Re: Atkins diet

I did this and the first two weeks are actually the worst! I lost 5lbs in the first three days but could barely walk or do anything for the entire week..and the constant hunger pangs were the worst!

Once I managed to get past the first 10 days or so, I started to 'defog' and felt more alert and active. The dieting became easier on a daily basis and food became a background term as opposed to something constantly on my mind.

A few suggestions based on what I did.

  1. Join a support group. I joined an online group called fatsecret.com. Here, you get to do two important things vital to your success. First you get to have a support group of people doing the same thing as you. You can ask for advice and share your own tips on what works for you.

Secondly, you can record a food log which is what I feel helped me the most. Seeing how many carbs each item I was eating had really helped enlighten me as to what to avoid and what to stock up on.

  1. Buy lots of Atkins/low carb books, especially recipes. Get the Atkins book as it will guide you through each stage and the potential hurdles you may face. Recipe books are a must in order to have a ready stock of food to eat so that you dont get hungry.

Having said all this, my friends at fatsecret said that the South Beach diet was better in the long run as the Atkins diet is too restrictive and weight gain is almost a given down the road.
