Atkins Diet..

explain it to me please..
and how effective is it? Does the wieght come back?

eat loads of fatty food eg fried eggs and dont eat any carbohydrates eg bread.

the trouble with that diet is that everything I know i like is primarily carbohydrates.. i mean it's a pain finding food you like that doesn't have carbs..

That is so true, I love bread, pasta, potatoes and rice and found it really hard at first when I went on the Atkins plan. And don't forget you have to forgoe sugar too which makes it even harder. But it does work and once you reach your target weight you can have limited carbs.

In day to day life, your body gets almost all of its energy from the carbohydrates in your diet. Excess energy gets stored as fat.

In the Atkins diet, you don't eat any carbohydrates or sugars. Instead, you eat high protein food like meat and eggs. (Fats coming into your body this way generally have much less effect on weight gain than carbohydrates do). Because your body suddenly finds that there is no energy coming into you from food, it starts breaking down the fat in your body for energy.

If you want an idea of how much energy you use... consider how warm your body is... particularly on the deep inside. Your body has to burn fat to keep that heat. Fat must be burnt to provide the energy for all of your muscles; and fat must be burnt for the bio-electric energy shooting around your body. Fat must be burnt to keep your heart pumping, your lungs breathing, etc.

This is why the diet produces results so quickly as well.

One of my relatives is a specialist (doc) that focuses on nutrition/health issues and he told me that I should do the Atkins Diet, but short term. He said in the long run it is not a healthy diet and can affect your organs.

I was actually on this diet for like a year, and so did some other girls I knew, and as soon as I got off it, the weight came flooding back. sigh It worked very well while I was on it but you lose energy quick.

You wana loose weight the only good way is exercise. I lost 10 kg in just three months at the gym. Its been a year since i left gym and i haven’t got any of it back Alhamdulilah despite being a lazy bum. The interesting thing is I have lost 2kg after leaving the gym but that must be because of all tension I been through :bummer:

I did however, control my diet inorder to loose that much that quickly. I use to eat everything but reduced the quantity. For example if I was invited some where I would eat half the kabab instead of a whole. Just remember its only a matter of taste, once you stop eating the taste will be gone pretty soon wether u eat 10 kababs or half its the samething really.

I still have to loose like 4 or so kg and been thinking about going to gym again but I don’t wanna give up my RS 1200 :crying:

yaar 10kg in three months....wow i mean in my case it would be great success

hmm i wana lose almost 15 kg, in three months,
first of all fantastic1 can u tell me was it carb diet??

don't know why i feel hungry right after the meal, well my mom says i can eat fruits and they will help me to cut down weight....
but if its a low carb diet , should i leave all wheat stuff and stay on freash fruits and vegetables??
can someone help me .... :(

Well Im back on WW and I unofficially cut my carbs and I lost 8lbs in a week. now Im afraid it'll come back. :(

^^ sweety that weights comin off way tooo fast, i dont think u should lose so much wight so fast, the avg should be boyt less than 4lbs i think in a week, but then again, i dont kno... i could be wrong... jus be careful

^ hi.
I know yaar.. thats why Im freaking out… and remember I told you my blood count is lw too… I’m just such a mess.. :teary2:

People

did anyone bother to pick up a book about the diet? the no carb phase is 2 weeks..

there are 3 phases, the first phase is induction where u can have no carbs, for some ppl you cant have diet sodas either because they could have an impact, you have to get these strips to check ketons in yoru urine so when u are in the stage wehre your body is brning stored fat, you will know by the test strips.

next phase is when u gradually bring back some carbs to your diet, not a whole lot though

in maintenance phase u can have quite a bit of good carbs. the sugar and simpel carbs are still to be avoided as much as possible.

Now..i have seen a cousin and a good pal lose weight on the diet and they kept it off. How, they changed their bad habits as they lost weight, became more active, more careful about what they ate, so after about 6 months for my cousin and 9 months for my pal being on the diet, they went off the diet and have maintained thero weight. Just to give u an idea i am not sure how much my cousin lost but it was 30-40 lbs in that period. My pal lost 60 lbs in 6 months and stayed on the diet for a few more just to maintain it. he gained about 10 back after getting off the diet but he is happy with it.

Either way, if you are going to follow any such diets, follow them properly, dont take the opinions of anonymous hacks as the fact.

get the book, whether u go for atjins or zone or south beach, hey all have books, websites and programs developed to make it easy for u.

yaar Muniya

i seriously dont believe in dieting n weight loss miracle tricks

imho the ONLY way u will lose weight healthily is if you do regular but not-too-overly-strenuous exercise, be active, regulate your eating habits n lifestyle, and so on

it will take moths atleast

but i dont believe in these diets wagheran

at the end you'll loose weight but you cholestrol with be touching skies...

^ your cholestrol will be high if you make 2 huge errors

1) stay on the induction phase forver
2) its a low carb diet, not a high fat particularly, you can have lean protiens and moderate good fats.

as I said, get the whole program. People I know who have been successful with it have had no health issues and have maintained their weight loss for 3-4 years now.

I’m limiting my carbs..not eliminating them and NO excess fat…couple that with even a 30 min a day workout and plenty or water…and make sure you sweat like a dog in those 30 mins :k:

if you’re not sure about a diet like Fraudia said..best thing would be to eat sensibly…
