ATHEISTS - Reloaded

Salam folks,

I would like to add some comments, ongoing thread was moving offtopic, so I started it new.

The two groups (Believers and Atheists) looks the same but they are actually worlds apart if we consider the belief in the picture.

Let’s also assume for argument sake that there are 4 possible religions that claim there is a God and that God is One, those religions are:

1. Hinduism
2. Judaism
3. Christianity
4. Islam

Let’s now add Atheism to the above 4, each one will have a probability, let’s make all of them equal, i.e.

1. Hinduism 20%
2. Judaism 20%
3. Christianity 20%
4. Islam 20%
5. Atheism 20%

I.e. there is a 20% chance for each of the above 5 probabilities to be true
All the first 4 say that there will be severe punishment for the rejectors, as well will be a generous reward for the followers.
Atheism on the other hand say there is nothing after death, i.e. there is no punishment nor reward

→ Now let’s assume there is a God :

The chance of a believer in any of those religions to be severely punished will be 60%
The chance of an atheist will be 80% (a clear cut loser indeed)
See, The believer is 20% better off
Now for the reward, a believer will have 20% chance
And the Atheist will have 0 chance, (a clear cut loser indeed)

→ Now if there is no God :

Well, who cares about chances here?, the believer and the atheist will be safe i.e. non existents any more after death

→ If we consider the chance of a God existence is 50% then the final chances for the believer and the atheist should be:

A believer will have: ½ * 3/5 = 3/10 = 30% chance to be punished
An atheist will have: ½ * 4/5 = 4/10 = 40% chance to be punished (a clear cut loser still)
See how a believer will always be in better situation based on science, LOL

The ironic note is this

If there is no god, what the hell a believer lost?, nothing for sure, he/she may even had a better life than an atheist, I mean a believer may have resources in life that enabled him/her to enjoy it better than an atheist while keeping the faith in God

Clearly a God rejector has 40% chance (10% more than a believer chance) to be humiliated bad with no chance of winning even if there is no God, they are the ultimate losers in my eyes, and for me they earned the title Dumb very well, and this sits them world apart from the believers who submitted to the One and only God.

somethings are not calculated or calculateable. they’re felt. one of such things is your “faith”.

Now, it is perfectly alright-O to be spiritual and not religious with the ritual following. :>

Sometimes, one’s eligious identity limits one from seeing other people’s religious identities. it is therefore important to know about spirtual aspect of religions, more than their puritanical versions.

For instance, Sikhism, Buddhism and Sufi Islam are very close to spirituality - freeness of the souls onspirtual-intellectual bounds. & that is great.

Your view is limited to sub.continent. However I will agre when one read different scriptures be it of christianity, jewism, buddists, islam. One certainly find simlarities because 80% of the world population is of believers and tumbling all road finally ends to God.

Otherwise sufism is only in sub.continent n perisa where very little folks practice it. And in rest of the world you see these practices in circus.

As a muslim I believe in spritual side of our soul and certainly do meditation.
One needs to balance spritual and social life. Going either way extereme is no good.

Not everyone bases their religious beliefs on the punishments that may or may not await them. They may base them on convictions, logic, spirituality, common sense or individuality instead of fear.

there is nothing wrong is believing a God.... no one knows what will happen when we die... religions are MAN made... who saw the angels, MAN did, who recorded the words of the angels coming from God, MAN did, who compiled them, MAN did.... who are following them, MAN are, who are fighting over it, MAN.... religion says we should believe in God, okay, I do.. now what. I am actaully believing what a MAN told me to believe in.

we will solve the mystry when we all die... for believers and atheist, if there is no God, good for both sides BUT if there is God, good for the believers atleast they will have the wild card of believing in him... atheist wont...just believe in him.. wont hurt!

Yea but wouldn't it be more like:

Atheist - 50%
Theists - 50%

The probability is 50/50 there. You can't place atheism alongside religions - atheism is not a religion.

I appreciate your reading and question.

Since at question is believer & non believer and majority of the world people are believers. The probability is not be 50/50. Whatever beliefs one follow comes 2nd.

Personally, I don't think there's any factor that can compare beliefs with one another.

Certainly there was also the time when people thought volcanos are God, and not to go far even today there people who worship fire. This doesnt prove anything.

What I'm saying is that you can't assume the probability of one being correct/incorrect in the end based on what the majority of people believe in. The majority of the people might be wrong, so the percentages you gave wouldn't be correct.

It should be based on the principles...so atheism vs. theism = 50 : 50.

Sure, there are all kinds of interpretations of the afterlife, or the lack thereof. But anyone - Christian, Muslim, atheist or whatever - that basis their religious beliefs on how scared they are of the myths of what hell is like is not basing their faith on anything other than fear of retribution. Of course others base it on the belief of a carnal pleasure land that awaits them if they follow certain tenets. IMHO, neither way is not an honest way to come to terms with your religion but rather being bribed into a belief system.

For the sake of argument we leave the facts and accept 50/50.

IF there is no God, a believer looses nothing and sees same afterlife as non-believer.
But if there is God; a believer is safe and the non-believer is doomed.
