… i know it is prohibited during sunset.. that is before magrib.

are there other times as well? i heard there were but am not sure bout it :konfused:

If I can remember all correctly:

  1. From sunrise till the point when sun is about a distance of "sawaa Nezay" from horizon (calculated to be between 15-20 minutes after sunrise), Ishraq time - Makrooh time

  2. Noon: when exactly in the middle of the day (Nisf-un-nahaar) uptil 15-20 minutes - Makrooh time

  3. After offering As'r prayer [qadhaa for other fardh can be done though] - Prohibited time

  4. 15-20 minutes before sunset (when sun is on a distance of "sawaa Nezay" from horizon ) till sunset, Maghrib time - Makrooh time

The reason why we are prohibited is we have to keep our life as balance and we are not permitted to pray at all times.

Is this when the sun is directly (90degrees) over your head?

From what I know, some of the Pagans (before Islam) used to worship the sun at these times (when it was setting down, rising, and right above your head).

The fact you listed is correct but that is perhaps not a reason. The main reason is we can not just pray at all times.

Why not? Muslims are forbidden from indulging in customs of other religion's.

Angels pray at all times. We are human beings and thus it is forbidden to pray at all times. I mean we can pray most of the time but not for 24 hours amongst leaving other activites such as physical activities, studies, jobs, eat, etc. If we do one of those then we can pray at all times.
