Re: At What Point Is Sex Education Imperative?
Regarding those who said that it’s not that necessary in a conservative environment, from my own experience I would disagree. I can’t talk for the Middle East but when I was younger I went back to Pak when I was 9, 14 and 16 and EVERY single time there was some sort of pervy event.
I had a guy in lahore grope at my backside (still makes me shudder), guys leaving me their mobile numbers with money (like wth?!) guys try to record me on their videophone, hands touching my body whilst in a busy crowd etc etc
The most ironic thing is in that every one of these situations I had family members with me incl. my parents who had NO idea what was going on and I was absolutely terrified and humiliated to say anything to them.
I repeat what GDISA said, we never said its unnecessary, just that despite not having gotten any sex ed we turned out fine. And while the incidents you describe do happen here, I have to question what sex ed would have done to prevent that sort of pervy behvaiour?
