I think around 9 to 10 months...
my first born said pretty much everything by 12 months - like cars, elephant, tree, dog, cat, etc - EXCEPT FOR MOM!!!!!!!!
I would point at ME and tell her say "mom" she wouldn't! She just gave me a blank stare! So one day after couple of more tries - I said, "say (myfullname)"... and SHE DID!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
She felt it was odd because everyone else around me would call me by my name... so she did not want to say "mom" either!
=)
Re: At what age?
Jitna ziada aur jitnay chotay buchchay say aap bolna shuru karain gay wo utna hi jaldi bolnay lagay ga.
Buchchon say baat kartay rahna chahyay jub kay wo bohat chotay hon.
Unhain kalma sunana chahyay. Ayat waghaira sunana chahyay.
Even La ilaha Illallah roz sunana chahyay.
Aik buchchi her waqt 9 month main kalima ka wird karti thi. Uski maan nain bohat chotay say uskay samnay sirf kalimay ka wird jari rakha tha. People was so amazed.
Wo buchchi jhoom jhoom kay her waqt kalima hi parhti thi.

Re: At what age?
for the most part children start talking (in phrases and sentences) by 2 yrs…first words are often uttered around 6-9months.
you should talk to your kids from day 1. There is no rule about when to start talking to them. The more you talk the more you will add to their vocabulary and the sooner they will be able to communicate with you.
I used to teach pre-k and Kg…we also had an infant room at that school. I would see the infant teachers talking to the babies as if they understood everything…was kinda cute ![]()
