I got mine once I got gooood grades in Year 10 (15)

and everyone had one in Year 6 (11)

So I would give it to my child when they start getting good results and I can trust them with one =)

When my high school going son wanted one I told him sure I am going to get a GPS and a camera fitted on your head also so that I would know for sure where you are and what you are doing all the time.:)

lol I still don't have one.. I don't really have any need for it...payphones zindabaad, plus cheaper. lol .. Its a different story that my ammi janee makes me take my older siblings cell or my abee janee cell at times... but other than that, cells are just annoying :s

the reason i mentioned driving as a benchmark is not because they will be out at night alone…but for emergencies…what if their car breaks down or they get into an accident?

Also…no matter how much parents dont want their kids to go out at night…the fact is they will! High school kids ok maybe not but once they get into uni you cant stop them. What if they have group studies or they need to do research at the library etc? but yea like you said thats another story.

yeah, exactly, if they’re going to be driving or be away from home then it makes sense to have a means of communication.. and yes, by the time university starts up if they’re not mature enough then not much you can do, Allah hi hafiz hay phir. but that’s why its important to grind in those good values and morals at a younger age; I get the feeling that some parents just let their kids drift in the misguided hope that they will miraculously be correctly molded by society..

as for the jitterbug, it’s probably the simplest phone out there, designed for old people who are completely alien to technology.

check it out, the second model on the right doesnt even let you dial a number; you just call the operator and tell them the name of the person you want to call and they connect it for you i guess you have to give them a list of people beforehand when you start your service.

extremely important question. now a days, the latest seems to be around 7th grade. this is amazingly wonderous but the way trend in this respect is in staying in contact with one's child, this seems to be the case.
if the child demands ph to be in contact with friends all the time, that has to be discussed with the child as to how long they can stay on the ph.
