at the masjid ul haraam and masjid e nabavi

for those of u who have been to these 2 respected and blessed mosques, u all know that we have to take off our shoes and carry them inside to the shoe rack or put them into a bag just before we enter these mosques. now my mom is very uncomfortable with touching the quran for reading after touching her slippers. she uses zamzam to wash her hands but is not sure whether one can do that either.

so anyone has any fatwa or any explanation with reference to our religious sources what the correct procedure should be?

i think its a no-win situation. if it bugs u so much, rinse ur hands with water but thats all. ideally it shudnt bug u so much coz ive read that in the times of the Holy Prophet SAW, they would even pray in their shoes, as mosques were not carpeted, and just walking on the earth was suffcient to deem the shoes as clean, even if u went to the loo in them.

but my mom’s not convinced.

can anyone help me here as my mom is going for umrah soon InshaAllah.

Simples.

You walk the ground, on which maybe there is a chance of unclean substances coming in contact with your shoes.

Wash your hands. Cleanliness is........

SubhanAllah rockon

Tell you mom that you would eat off the blessed dust that is in the holy city ... washing with zamzam is okay ... after all people do wudu with zamzam, they wash their hands that touch the Qur'an and splashes of zamzam fall over the floor the very place that touches our feet which touch our shoes ... the very shoes we touch with our hands that we have washed to touch the Qur'an.

The important thing is that your mom has respect for the mussHaf ... brilliant! ... Now extend that love and respect for the whole sanctury of Haram, then it might help.
