At least 23 killed in attacks in north-west Pakistan

At least 23 people died Saturday in a suicide car bombing and fighting between suspected Islamic militants and government forces in north-west Pakistan, officials said. Ten pro-Taliban gunmen and four soldiers were confirmed killed during an insurgent attack on a military base and a security checkpoint in Dosali near Miranshah, the capital of the tribal district of North Waziristan that borders Afghanistan. A two-hour firefight ensued around 3:30 am after government forces came under rocket fire. “We have the bodies of 10 militants, while the attackers were seen fleeing with five more bodies,” army spokesman Major General Waheed Arshad said. Four soldiers were injured in the attack. In a separate incident near the Afghan border, a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-packed car into another vehicle in the remote town of Parachinar in the Kurram Agency. Eight civilians and the attacker died and 35 people were injured, local administrator Sahibzada Anees-ur-Rehamn said. Many of the casualties taken to the main district hospital were in a critical condition, according to doctors. The target of the attack was not immediately clear. A number of businesses were damaged, and the electricity supply to the region was disrupted after cables were severed in the blast.

Islamic extremists have launched a string of attacks on security forces in retaliation for the raid by government troops on a radical mosque in the capital Islamabad in July. More than 100 people died in the mosque fighting, which Islamic extremists have vowed to avenge.

Pakistan suicide motion ignored

The attack on the Red Mosque was followed by several suicide attacks
**Opposition MPs in the Pakistani parliament have ignored a proposal to pass a resolution condemning recent suicide attacks in the country.

The proposal was made by Pakistan’s interior minister during the parliamentary session on Friday.**

Pakistan has been the target of several suicide attacks which have claimed dozens of lives in recent weeks.

The attacks follow a siege by security forces on the Red Mosque in Islamabad which ended in a bloody shoot-out.

Government criticised

**Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao asked for the adoption of the resolution after making an address on the current security situation in the country.

But the call went unheeded by members of parliament, including representatives of the right-wing alliance of Islamic religious parties, the MMA.

They chose instead to criticise the government’s military operation against militants in North West Frontier Province and in North and South Waziristan.**

Waziristan
Opposition MPs said more attention should be given to Waziristan

“The government is only exacerbating disputes over the border with Afghanistan,” said Maulana Fazlur Rahman, the leader of the opposition in parliament.

“Pakistan must change its policies in the so called war on terror before peace can be restored”.

Liaquat Baloch, deputy head of the right-wing Jamaat-e-Islami party, also weighed in, calling for an end to US intervention in Afghanistan.

“The situation will not change, and resistance will continue till the Americans leave,” he said.

However the parliament did agree to debate several key issues affecting the county called by the minister for parliamentary affairs.

Dr Sher Afghan Niazi said that subjects up for discussion should include “mud-slinging” by US presidential candidates on Pakistan, the country’s foreign policy, the India-US nuclear agreement, Pakistan’s status as a “front line state in the war on terror” and new conditions on US aid to the country.

Dr Niazi said that he expected the debate to clear up numerous “misunderstandings”. It will begin on Monday.

A proposal is also under consideration to have a joint session of both the senate and the national assembly to discuss these issues.

Allah save Pakistan. The fault lines are getting bigger and bigger.

Re: At lesst 23 killed in militant raid and suicide attack

I wonder who can justify the actions of these people?, especially when they are targetting innocent cvilians.

Re: At lesst 23 killed in militant raid and suicide attack

^ the ones who can justify suicide bombing can justify any action.

Re: At lesst 23 killed in militant raid and suicide attack

Yes for the terrorist mullahs everyone else is kaffir or murtid and deserves to die. There is no logic to their thinking, they have long given up Islamic reasoning and only do whet their mullah leaders tell them to do. Of course Muslims themselves are responsible for cultivating the cult of suicide bombings, because we never condemned the suicide bombings against Israeli civilians or other non Muslims. Now Allah is showing us that if you support evil against your enemy, He will send this evil against us as well.

This animal first attracted a crowd of on-lookers by first crashing into a parked vehicle and when people gathered to look, blew his car up for maximum fatalities. He killed Pathans of the agency including girls and children. Makes me wonder if these people have any sympathy with the local civilians.

Re: At lesst 23 killed in militant raid and suicide attack

^ their strategy is to kill more civilians so people who lose their loved ones will standup for "revenge" and then someone will brainwash them that it was 'government action' thus trap them into acting against government otherwise just killing civilians will only go against the terrorist groups.
