At least we are Dubai..

Re: At least we are Dubai..

right now we should be saying "thank god we are not Greece" :D

Re: At least we are Dubai..

greece mei kya hua ab

:hehe:

I just read the response ‘article’ again and he says that:
“Dubai is made of slightly sterner stuff. It is by no means perfect, but name a country that is?

The only problem with this statement is that Dubai goes out of it’s way to project an image of a perfect paradise. Film camera’s are forbidden to film the squalid living conditions and working conditions of the foreign workers. Let’s face it they’re treated like subhumans yet they’re the ones who are building the place into what it is. I agree other countries aren’t perfect but atleast they don’t try to pretend they are. Dubai on the other hand does…and it’s sickening.

I’ve been there a few times and yes it’s a lovely place for a holiday but speaking to some workers there and listening to their stories can really break your heart.

haven't read this article... but I read George's original piece (love the guy) and can't agree more with him. what he said applies to all Arab countries/societies though in slightly different ways. we might have a million problems in Pakistan but we also have freedom. freedom to beech, freedom to protest, freedom to write articles, etc. comparatively speaking all Arab societies are diseased. we Pakistanis/ajmis are way better off than the baddoos.

Re: At least we are Dubai..

Syraa !!
you are talking labour class,
Yes the working conditions for them are not that great plus they don't have any minimum wage limit there.

BUT
what ever labour earns in Dubai is far more then what they earn in their countries.
Drivers, construction workers etc,,

I am not defending any thing but the FACT WILL ALWAYS REMAIN
why do you think they allow POLISH people or asian students in UK ???
Cheap labour and tax .

The quality is not that good but still they moved every call centre to Asia ..business plans
Now if I want to hire local for construction I will not find it if I do it will cost me fortune I am better off importing them thats what they are doing and belive me there are still plenty of people who would do any thing to earn AED 700/-PM

Clad, it’s not just the worker’s who aren’t treated well. Have a read of this article, it’s quite long but it’s very good. It pretty much highlights how destitute the place is.

Also, there’s a difference between cheap labour and slavery.

Re: At least we are Dubai..

Yaaarrr !!!!!!!

In Business you will use every individual as a part of machine.
If four contractors comes to your home renovating your kitchen you will go with a cheaper option regardless how much they pay to their labour In fact you will never ask them if they go with minimum labour rate to electrician or plumber etc.
slavery is a very harsh word and very inappropriate believe me.

As for this report !!!!
Sweet heart Independent ,FT,Guardian, All these British News papers are far from truth & Facts.
Realisticly they are talking about Dubai because they wouldn't want Inverters to go to Dubai reason is simple they want money to stay in Britain

Clad,

There are SO many stories about how workers are treated in Dubai. Did you miss the video where the Afghan was tortured by the ruling UAE Prince?

So does that mean abusing them is justified? What kind of logic is that?

Look at this my friend:

do you think the reaosning ‘oh they get more money than they do in their own countries’ is justified’?

Anyway this topic has been done recently, read it below too

http://www.paklinks.com/gs/all-views/375360-how-dubai-treats-its-workers.html

Sorry love but in the context of Dubai, slavery is an apt term. There’s a difference between cheap labour and exploiting vulnerable people.

Yes, I’m aware the Independent is a British newspaper. I’d hold more stock in its articles than anything coming from a Dubai paper. Just because something doesn’t agree with your school of thought it doesn’t make it “far from truth and facts.”
And hun I’ve been there and SEEN it for myself. I’m not judging a whole place on a couple of articles from newspapers. Are you going to tell me my eyes are lying now?

Oh and with Dubai’s economic problems I doubt British companies are running there for business at this particular moment in time so the newspapers don’t need to deter them, Dubai seems to have managed that on it’s own.

Peace out.

Re: At least we are Dubai..

^ well said Syra and Shak :k:

Re: At least we are Dubai..

You have to agree on first step Business is about making money, successful person in business is one who makes most money in least time simple..
so that justifies cheap labour.

now comes to labour rights (they have may day to shout and stuf innittt ) just kidding.

See why don't you go to Pakistan and tell people that you have 50 visas for Dubai job is working as a slave there for 3 years working on the roof 10th floor high rise building cutting iron operating heavy duty machine 12 hours a day you will get only AED800/-

tell them every thing .

UNDERSTAND THIS !!
people do not have jobs they are struggling for basic food & shelter.

and as I said multinational companies will not survive if they are issuing 50 now they wont be able to issue 10 visas.
whats better hard earned AED 800 or nothing at all

Re: At least we are Dubai..

please dont get me wrong
I do feel sorry for labour but ask them if they want to go back they will say no!!

Re: At least we are Dubai..

Yeahhhhh...true but that doesn't mean that you need to exploit them...and have you ever had a chat with any of them???? I have...and trust me..it ain't nice....do u think treating ppl like trash is justifiable in the name of business and money making!!!!!!!!!

One day they have to answer to Allah not to MONEY!

yeaaa...coz they don't have a CHOICE...but UAE has a choice...they could provide them with more money and treat them like humans and not like cattle in a farm...I think their cattle and camels get treated better than these ppl!

Re: At least we are Dubai..

aaliya you are still missing the point !!!

no construction company in the whole UAE even in Pakistan can afford expensive labour.
what do you think they should do Increase property cost ??
investors cannot afford it so we don't work every 1 sits in home and watch Southpark (its funny)
Reduce engineer cost ? cant do that !
use cheep material ? cant do that building will collapse!

please don't ask me that they can reduce profits because they cant .

they invest fortune on land fortune on plans fortune on licensing and stuff hours and hours of hard work and they earn profits ..

you know pathan in Karachi works 7 to 5 for Rs 500
he is million times better in Dubai

Re: At least we are Dubai..

It is NOT justifiable...they just want to show off to the whole world...so no matter what...it NEVER justifiable!

lolz
luv believe me I have had a chat with them.
end of 3 years contract they go home with handsome amount and they are happy.

okok
its not justifiable , not justifiable
never justifiable

finito

Re: At least we are Dubai..

well good for them...but the ones I was talking to were not happy...

Oh and don't call me luv...coz I ain't ur luv!

Re: At least we are Dubai..

sorry luv is welsh word means dear not LOVE
