LAHORE: Atleast twelve people have been killed and 10 injured as suspected militants launched a brazen attack on Jinnah Hospital in Lahore late Monday night.
Initial report suggests that five to seven militants were involved in the attack. One of the militants was injured during the inital police firing.
One security guard has been shot dead and the militants said to have entered the emergency ward of the hospital and taken patients hostage.
Terrorists entered hospital premises in camouflage of police uniform. A private TV channel reported that five of the dead are police officers.
The militant captured from Friday’s attack on the Ahmadi community’s place of worship was admitted to the intense care ward of the Jinnah hospital.
Analysts suggest that this was the prime motive behind the attack on the hospital.
Re: At least twelve people killed in Lahore attack
why should the security people give up their lives for such a futile cause?
aren't Ahmedis wajib-ul-qatal anyway? and aren't those who attacked them mujahideen? why should the security forces fight them and ruin their chances of getting into jannat?
Saving Rehman Malik and Zordari's behinds, saving MNAs, MPAs and other "VIPs".
yes, absolutely. it is Zardari's fault that PML-N is in bed with terrorists like Sibah Sahaba. it's Zardari's fault that Rana Sanaullah campaigns with terrorists. it is Zardari's fault that Shehbaz Sharif was telling terrorists that PML-N's cause and the terrorist cause was one and the same... so they should make peace with each other. it is Zardari's fault that the supreme court can take notice of ONE corruption case in the NRO ignoring hundreds if not thousands of murder cases.... yet it is toothless to prevent thirdclass garbage like Hafiz Saeed from going free. it is Zardari's fault that the LHC can ban facebook, yet cannot convict a single terrorist. it is Zardari's fault that the PML-N govt which (btw is in power in Punjab) first failed to provide adequate protection to Ahmedis and then failed to provide adequate security in the hospital where that bearded piece of sh*t terrorist was held.
Good job :k: Thats how a jiyala should respond. If Rana Sanaullah campaigns with terrorists and Fed govt knows about it then why did they not take any action? BTW, where do you think buck stops? At the local SHO? or local Nazim? Who should take responsibility of this failure? Hmmm, I guess it should be PTI.
Re: At least twelve people killed in Lahore attack
does the police come under the jurisdiction of the federal or provincial govt?
there should have been much more police presence there. this is sheer incompetance. second time they've gone past whatever security barriers there are by just investing in some uniforms.

Police I believe comes under provincial, but the action against terrorism should be under federal. PML-N is already in bed with extremists, as pointed out by samb, but nobody is willing to take action against them but are okay with possibility of US taking action in Pakistan.
yes, I’m a jiyala who participated in the protest for the restoration of the judiciary. I’m a jiyala who firmly supported the restoration of the judges even against the PPP govt - yes, the party I’m supposedly a jiyala for. I’m the jiyala who can’t stand the sight of Babar Awan, Rehman Malik, etc. though I admit I adore good politicians/leaders like Aitzaz Ahsan, Sherry Rehman, Ayaz Amir (of PML-N) etc. and yes, I have questioned the things I grew up with such as believing that BB was a traitor and would never be faithful to the country and that Zardari is the second coming of Satan himself. in most places rethinking irrational, biased things like that would be considered part of growing up… in Pakistan it’s called becoming a jiyala. so, if that makes me a jiyala, then yes, I’m a jiyala.
btw, calling me a jiyala makes as much sense as calling you or anyone who is religious in a sensible way part of the Taliban.
Re: At least twelve people killed in Lahore attack
BBC its understandable... they employed very devious means that we really cant account for in advance. they used police uniforms to get in and out of security.
Sorry, but Punjabi Taliban are real threat and they’re under patronage of PMLN. The PMLN is responsible for security at provincial level in province that they’re running. Only time it becomes the federal govts responsibility is when and if there is governors rules, and federal govt calls out army for help to restore law and oder situation.
The attack on Jinnah Hospital put more pressure on the government of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to crack down on militants in Punjab.
Only a day earlier federal Minister for Interior Rehman Malik had spoken in Lahore about the presence of militants in the province, indicating that a large number of them may be concentrated in ‘southern Punjab’. Mr Malik had held that these militants were born out of an alliance of convenience between the Taliban and Al Qaeda and the sectarian groups that have been active not only in southern parts of Punjab but in fact all over the province.
This promptly brought the federal minister and his PPP government at the centre into confrontation with the PML-N set-up in Punjab.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah was quick to reject Rehman Malik’s assertions. He went further by declaring that the mention of Punjab or its southern districts as a possible area for a clean-up operation was part of an “international conspiracy”.
The statements made in the wake of the Jinnah Hospital incident provided more proof of just how far apart the governments in Islamabad and Lahore stand on an issue that may have the gravest of consequences for the whole country.
Responding to remarks that the attack on the hospital may have been aimed at either eliminating or freeing an assailant of the Friday’s strikes against Ahmadis, Rehman Malik said it was not in his “notice” that the suspect was being treated at Jinnah.
This obviously suggested that he would have asked the authorities to keep the whereabouts of the suspect secret.
Ignorant as the federal minister did sound, his latest remarks were tantamount to an expression of distrust in the ability and the will of the Punjab government to tackle the fast growing monster of militancy. It was a sign that if no one else, the centre and Punjab were moving towards a showdown on what have come to be known as Punjabi Taliban.
Re: At least twelve people killed in Lahore attack
isnt this something of usual now in pakistan? another way to grab attention off of the attack on the Ahmadi's masjid 2 days ago. After 2 days there will be another incident like this and people will forget about today's incident and feel sorry of the new one, and on and on......

Just wanted to point out as in Iraq we see violence every other day, Pakistan is starting to take that path, only thing which will seal the deal is warm welcome of the Americans......
