PESHAWAR: At least 17 people were killed and 43 others injured when a bomb exploded on a bus carrying government employees on Peshawar’s Charsadda Road, DawnNews reported.

“The bomb was planted inside the bus. At the moment, the death of 17 people have been confirmed,” Zahirul Islam, deputy commissioner of Peshawar, told AFP.

Nasir Durrani, the police chief of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, told reporters the remote-controlled bomb was planted at the back of the bus, which was taking government staff home to the town of Charsadda after work.

Durrani confirmed that 17 people have been killed and 43 wounded.

An eyewitness speaking on GEO news channel said the blast was so powerful it threw victims’ bodies clear of the vehicle and onto the roadside.

Footage showed the back of the bus reduced to a tangle of twisted metal by the force of the explosion.

Police and rescue teams reached the site of incident and nine dead bodies were taken to Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar while eight bodies were taken to a government hospital in Charsadda.

The target was government employees, Sahibzada Mohammad Anis, the commissioner of Peshawar, told AFP.

Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, lies on the edge of Pakistan’s tribal areas, labelled by Washington as the main sanctuary for Al Qaeda and Taliban militants in the country. The city has seen frequent attacks by militants in the past few years, with targets ranging from civilians to policemen and other law enforcement personnel.

I think NS should initiate action without further delay. These animals don’t understand the language of human beings. There should be no talks. If any one talk about stupid peace talks including IK should be kicked hard on their butts.

Re: At least 17 killed in Peshawar explosion

^ that's right, if an operation is conducted it would be in FATA which is under federal government. Any operation could have a fallout in Punjab too.

Re: At least 17 killed in Peshawar explosion

No operation would be complete/successful against extremism if not done in Punjab as well.

Re: At least 17 killed in Peshawar explosion

Sharif brothers won't do that as are scared of LEJ, the army won't touch NWA as its a hornets nest. Imran khan should I think keep quiet for the time being as he is taking all this on himself. Let the federal government and army deal with fata how ever thu want to.

Koi apna maray ga tau ahsas hoo ga.

Re: At least 17 killed in Peshawar explosion

You think the government seriously wants to talk? It was a campaign promise, an easy one for the government to make because Nawaz Sharif knew that no matter how seriously he tried to start talks, the militants would never do so in good faith.

Nawaz is playing it very well. He's looking to the people as though he's desperately trying to make talks, all the while knowing that this would always be completely impossible. He can carry out the same policies as the governments before, all the while appearing to be trying to fulfill his campaign promise of a different path.
