At-home or the salon?

Someone left a pamphlet on my door for ‘at-home’ services which includes everything. Threading, waxing, facials as well as Keratin treatments. Would any of you ask someone to come home to do any treatment or would you prefer going to the salon?

Re: At-home or the salon?

If someone is willing to come over to my place for these services, then I will definitel not mind
It would be more convenient though - better than waiting in the salons for your turn to come : P

Re: At-home or the salon?

Ive had beauticians come in to offer their services.... I loved it... Especially with a kid...its so much easier... Its unheard of where i live but in arabia its a blessing! Though i wasnt too crazy bout the facial. Rest was great. Ive had wax, threading, hair cutting, mani pedi done.

Re: At-home or the salon?

I would prefer at home for the overall privacy because of my hijab.

Re: At-home or the salon?

Not heard of any 'at home' services, but I have been to get my eyebrows threaded at a lady's house. She answered the door in her dressing gown, her husband and son were watching the football VERY LOUDLY and the 'beauty room' was untidy and minging. I had to wait whilst this 14 year old was getting her eyebrows threaded for the first time. It was horrific.

I like going to Salons. I like the whole fakey, dolphin music, candle overdose experience.

Re: At-home or the salon?

Threading is the only things I can think of that I would not mind getting done at home.

Facials, mani/pedi, waxing etc.....I'd never get those done at home. Usually women who do that are "one woman" business. I have no way of knowing what type of review her other clients would give her. I'd have to check on my own to make sure she's actually licensed in my state. And the most important safety issue....especially when it comes to mani/pedi...I have no way of knowing if the instruments are property steralized.

With salons (at least here in the U.S.), I can easily go online and read reviews on it before going on. The salons here (at least in my state) have their licenses and certifications on full view. The nail salon I go to...I can see the machine used to steralize the equipment.

I'm also paranoid about letting a strange woman into my house on a regular basis who may come to know my daily routine after a while. Unless the woman is referred to me by someone I know/trust...I really have no way of knowing who she is. It's a MAJOR decision to let someone into your house in a regular basis who will also interact with your kids (if you have any)....and since home is much more of a intimate setting....will get to know your routines.

In addition, for me I enjoy the experience of going to a salon. The salons I go to take appointments for services so it's rare for me to wait more than 5-10 minutes for my turn. It's a "treat" for me.

Re: At-home or the salon?

My brother has the same issue with letting people in the house too. I too, prefer the salon atmosphere... I love how my regular salon doesn't allow cell-phones!

Re: At-home or the salon?

Saloon. It's more professional and tidy.

Re: At-home or the salon?

I prefer salon and I haven't really come across anyone in toronto who would come to your house. I've heard it the other way around though where women have opened up salons in their homes which is fine b/c of the privacy but can be awkward if they have ppl over. For that reason I prefer my salon which is great.
