Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

Talk about comparing apples and grapefruit.
So my initial plan was that I will use the iPad2 till the new Asus Transformer comes out and then put the iPad2 on ebay (will sell for $500 with the 32gb and smart cover).

The Transformer Prime just came out. I will probably get the keyboard with it. So if I go for the 32 gb one it would cost me ($500+150) $650 or the 64gb one for $750. It will give me a whopping 18 hours of battery life. (keyboard has battery in it too). I know that’s all theoretical but even if i get 75% of that its 12 hours.

Then I said why not get a Macbook Air. Currently my main computer is a 15" Macbook Pro and have gotten pretty comfy with the OS. So I thought with MBA I will kill 2 birds with one stone. So the 2 options are:

-Keep the MbPro and replace the ipad2 with Transformer (total out of pocket will be about $250 with tax and keyboard etc)
-Sell MBP and ipad2 and get MBA (4gb, 256gb), which would again end up with a total cost about $250 also

Any thoughts?

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

Considering how much you’ll be spending after both purchases i would suggest getting a MacBook Air. In comparison to Transformer Prime it is hands down awesome. Look at it this way TP runs android which isn’t superior to Mac’s new OS Lion. It even has the functionality of adding apps just like any Andriod OS. You not only get 5 hours of battery life with MBA you also get 30 days standby time!. I’m pretty sure that 5 hours is a lot of time you’ll be spending on a computer without having to charge it. So even in theory you wouldn’t be using the TP for 18 hours straight. I would go with MBA its lighter, it looks sexier, you’re already used to the Mac OS GUI interface. Since you don’t any hardcore video editing on the MBA Pro you wouldn’t need a heavy Proc, therefore go with the MBA.

PS: Transformer Prime is just a silly name

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

How would you kill two birds with one stone with option 2? Is it because Air is light so can be carried around like a tablet? I guess the question is would you like two products or one? If there is nothing wrong with your current Pro…why replace it…jus get the transformer

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

^ Oye Sareh! Let him get the Air, Pro has an older Proc and its heavy as heck to carry around.

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

So he will get a transformer to carry around.

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

^ Air is lighter than a TP, besides he’s getting the keyboard to go along with the Prime. which would make it in to a computer anyways! So why not get a Computer thats already light and has an attached keyboard!

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

That’s the plan, get the Prime and the keyboard to make it into a computer so I can actually do reports and stuff on there.
But I agree, the things I can do on a Mac I won’t be able to do on the Prime. But on the same hand I use the iPad for sales presentations and using the touch interface is very slick when you’re guiding people from frame to frame. The keyboard can be detached in Prime so I don’t need it all the time.
Hence you understand my confusion.

PS: I’m interested in the 13" MBA, which has 7 hrs of battery time (on paper)

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

How about getting the Air and keeping the ipad2 (for the whole touch option)?

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

Agreed

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

Btw, did you know that the company that makes toy robots has sued Asus Transformer for naming their new tablet Transformer Prime? Wicked.

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

Ji, Hasbro’s CEO, Brian Goldner, contacted me directly to ask me if they should or should not sue Asus. I’m like go ahead.

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

you’re so insensitive. : naak:

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

Hello All,
I want to get a laptop for traveling purpose. I have so much interest in Macbook Air 13” 2012 model but my friend told me Macbook pro is batter than Macbook Air. So I have so much confused please suggest me which one is best for traveling purpose. Thanks!!

Re: Asus Transformer vs Macbook Air

Welll it’s not about which is better but what your purpose is. For traveling, Air would be better as it’s lighter and easy to carry.
