Assume I'm a complete idiot...

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

^haha!

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

I have a question...did you guys take car seat with you? If yes, how did it go? If not, what did you do in Pakistan?

We will be going to Pakistan with our then 3month old baby and want to take the car seat with us mainly because we don't want him to get out of the habit and of course for safety purposes as well!

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

I think we're gonna be bad and not take it. We're very strict about it here, but I just don't see us using the cumbersome toddler carseat, moving it in and out of various relatives' cars. And we're not planning to take her out unless necessary.

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

Makes sense.. Though we will be using our own private car so it will not be a hassle and don't plan to take him out much either ( good thing he is on formula as well and my mom will be there to take care of him)! But I still can't let go of not having a car seat there! I really don't want hi to get used to godi!

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

Infant carseats are also more portable. I would take it if you can. You can even get carseat carriers to transport it.

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

I did not take one when I went there with my then 6 month old.She traveled in our laps whenever she had to.I stayed there for 2.5 months and when I got back she had no trouble at all adjusting back into her rear facing car seat. Her issues started a few months later when we started thinking about a front facing one.

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

I guess I should start with checking the airline if they let you bring car seat or not.. oh wait, I should first get his passport made, buy the ticket and then figure out the car seat logistic :D

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

GTG, we had a car seat back home but Jr. was still in my lap most times coz I was feeding him or he was being fussy and hubby's answer to that was tum utha lo..... I even used to have him in my lap while I sat in the passenger seat in the front. Got a ticket but anyways....

I was so afraid when we were moving to Canada with Jr. not sitting in a car seat but he adjusted just fine... a couple of times in the stroller and then car seat was just normal for him. No issues.
I wouldn't take a car seat with me if I were you, just use that space to bring back stuff for freezing :D .... also kids are rather quick to adjust whatever circumstances there are...

Re: Assume I’m a complete idiot…

Infact my husband is panicking more about car seat than I am..let’s see what we decide to do!

Sahar..are you taking water with you? If yes, how n how much?

After reading this news, I do want to take water with me! We use bottled water at home for his formula…probably I should take that but I dontkbow how!

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

My sister took water with her for her 20 month old and once she got to KHI realized that they had the same there so was mad about the extra weight she carried. Nestle Pur Life is readily available in PK - buy it there rather than lugging it with you.

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

GTG:

First off, check about using bottled water for formula. I remember reading that it lacked some mineral babies may need. But it may depend on the water.

We are not planning to take water, except for what bottles we currently have it home. Abbu is already there and feels there is no need as long as we get the Nestle bottles. We are also recommended to buy the bottles in a sealed case, rather than individually, so there is less risk of tampering.

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

omg that is so sad. :(

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

By bottled water I meant the nursery water that's for babies.. Can we not use that water? It comes in a pack of 8 as well as 1and 2.5 gallons!

Thanks sehrysh for sharing that!

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

^ Yup, I'm pretty sure that's fine!!

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

Nursery water which is exclusively for babies is fine.
My daughter was on formula when I took her.It was almost impossible to carry water for 2.5 months with me without paying good amounts of money.I used double filtered water, boiled for 5 mins after it reached a full boil and used that to make her formula, wash her bottles, toys etc etc.She was fine,AH and I plan on using water the same way this time too.
I personally don't see the need for you to carry a car seat. But then you can decide whatever makes you feel more comfortable.

The infant death news is so sad...:(

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

So if I can't use the bottle water to make formula here, how can I use the bottled wTer there? I wish I was exclusively bf!

Double filter as in boil for 5 mins after it reaches full boil? We will be traveling a lot in Punjab ( in laws, my parents, my sister etc.) I don't know how convenient will be boiling water everywhere we go? And/ or traveling with it... Ok I think I m making it harder for myself than it really is!

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

People have those filters mounted on the walls there. Some have 2 barrel things and some have 3.The one with 3 says that it makes the water pass through double filters, that is filters it twice. That is what we had at my parent's.After filtering it I used to boil it for 5 mins after a full boil.Cool it to room temp and use it.Whenever I was visiting some place I took the needed amount of water in the bottles I was gonna mix formula in or in a small flask. It is not that hard and the wall mounted filters are pretty common, acc to what I have seen.

You are using nursery water to make formula here which comes in bottles and is different from the regular bottled water (dasani, poland spring etc etc ).People DO use that for making formula as well, but there was something about it I do not recall which made others prefer nursery water or plain boiled tap water for mixing formula.

Regarding bottled water in Pakistan,a general concept was that it 'can' be tampered very easily.I am not sure how true that is,but I do believe that the so many no-name companies who have come up with bottled water won't be too reliable.

Another scenario can be you carrying ready made formula. It comes in cans and requires no water.I bought them for my daughter for use during flights. They added extra weight in the diaper bags and I had to open and taste one at Manchester airport but that can eliminate the use of water there.

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

Hehe I had no idea what double filter was..will have to ask my mom about it. Asfar as I know, they usuAlly just boil water.

Why would someone wNt to temper with 25 rupay ki bottle? Seriously it's beyond my understanding!

We used the ready to made formula whe I was In the hospital and cuppycake took it fine so that's a good idea..we will gave to check BJs fir that. ;)

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

Gemini: Car seat will be more a hassle for you than a comfort IMO. We travelled with kanzah when she was 9 months old and we travelled in suzukis, wagons, buses, trains etc, no private car for us so it was just easier to hold her in our lap. Cars there are not that big to begin with so once you put hte car seat in, you will have no space for other passengers.

Also are you breastfeeding a few times a day? Maybe while you are travelling you can just do that? if not, than definetly take boiled water with you whenyou go outside your comfort zone. The water at my inlaws was fine for kanzah (it came from the filtered water facilities by the govt) and I even used it without boiling but when iw ent to Pindi, i had to either boil the water there or take water from my inlaws. Alhamdulillah she didnt get much sick this time although her tummy tried a few times to get upset over some snacks she couldnt say no to when out with cousins.

Re: Assume I'm a complete idiot...

Due to supply issues,I have to supplement with formula. I m hoping ti bf as long as possible even if it's once a day..right now, he takes bottle about 3-4 times.

At my parents, nani's, n sisters house they use boiled water..I could pebbly look into buying bottled water n then boiling it as well..Him getting sick is the last thing I want..I grew up on that water but every time I go home, I get sick!

I don't plan to take him outside for shopping etc.. He will be staying with my mom or sister! So the only travel he will do is between different cities (1-5 hours)! I will check with airline for carseat, n then see how we want to do..or better yet I will check with my sister!
