I never played Morrowind, but Oblivion apparently fixed the open ended problem by always making it clear where the next plot objective is. However, mindless wandering is still rewarded with dungeons and subquests.
I now need to decide what comes next for my Xbox gaming. There's no major release that I'm looking forward to. Maybe Tom Clancy's End War; but more likely I'll be playing lots of Halo 3 multiplayer when I'm done with Mass Effect; after which I may swing to COD 4 for its multiplayer.
For me, after Mass Effect I'll try to finish Blue Dragon. Then there's a small backlog of released games I'd finally like to get.
I've found XBox Live Arcade games to be a lot of fun. You can pick one up for even 10-15 minutes. They're fun whether you only have a few minutes to play or you can enjoy them for hours.
