Asr azaan timings confusion

Why are there two different timings for Asr prayers? In Makkah the timings go off earlier around 3ish so does my phone azaan when I’m back in Pakistan but the local masjids start the azaan an hour later. Is it a firqa thing or something else?

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

Arabs offer asr in awwal waqt [at the beginning of the asr period] while in the sub-continent [followers of Imam Abu Hanifa [r.a.] offer aaKhir waqt [later] around 1.5 hours before sunset. that’s the rule of the thumb.

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

Isn’t it better to pray early? Deliberately making late prayers sounds strange to me. And what about the time in between? Zuhr time usually ends at 3 anyway so why the limbo in between.

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

We dont need to ask anyone, we must consult Quran, what it says in Surat-ul-Taha, verse # 130 & Surat-ul-Room, verse # 17 & 18..

Fajr: Offer prayer before sunrise..

Zohar: Offer prayer when sun starts decreasing from the top (farthest) position.

Asar: Offer prayer when your shadows gets double.

Maghrib: Offer prayer when sun goes down (sun-set).

Isha: Offer prayer after maghrib till half night…

P.S: Yes, we must offer prayer as soon as possible..

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

It looks like you mean the difference between what our prayer calendars denote as shadow 1 and shadow 2. Shafi, Hanbali and Maliki offer their Asr according to the former and Hanafi according to the latter.

Technically the only non-prayer time there is between two prayer is Fajr and Zuhr. Otherwise, Zuhr time lasts until Asr enters, which lasts until Magrhib time enters, which lasts until Isha time enters, which lasts until Fajr time enters.

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

Its not making prayers late, the hanafi asr time just starts later.

In the uk currently hanafi zuhr time is till 6.50 ish. Official Mosque Jamaat times range from 1.30-2.30 for zuhr and 7.30-7.45 for asr. Some Mosques may even have a later time for asr jamaat depending on their circumstances

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

it’s a matter of fiqh. Imam Abu Haneefa [r.a.] prefers later offering of Asr prayer.

hurrying prayer at MaGhrib [not delaying] is recomended in Hanafii maslak as well.

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

^ so you mean to say that ALLAH’s commandments can be bent on someone’s preference?

P.S: when will we stop discussing maslaks? why dont we do what ALLAH says?

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

Its an interpretation of what Allaah says

Its a maslak from the salaf us salih (kufa, Al Imam Abu Hanifa)

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

I dont believe in maslaks or sects… dont even know the names… infact its ALLAH’s order not to get divided into sects…

P.S: everyone must read translation and then tafseer of Surat-ul-Taha & Surat-ul-Room, we will then get to know what exactly is the timing and why is it said that one shouldnt offer prayers late… & nothing is more authentic than Quran…

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

Difference of opinion exists. Even if we reject the rulings of the salaf and then the khalaf and start over again we would have difference of opinions among the people of today.

A person can pray Asr upto the time of maghrib. When a particular Mosque sets time for jamaat its their personal choice. Other then the makruh minutes before Maghrib its all good. Are you saying that praying Asr lets say 45 mins before Maghrib is impermissible?

Sects differ on Aqeedah, this is a difference of opinion in fiqh. Theres really much nothing to it. The only thing was OP was unaware of the difference of opinion

Re: Asr azaan timings confusion

no I aint saying we cant offer prayer 30 minutes earlier or so, we can, but what I am saying is, it is best to offer ASAP (in the time frame that is mentioned in the Quran).
