so how do you ask your boss for a raise? I was hired six months ago and demanded a certain minimum salary and my boss told me i’ll be getting that salary as a raise after a review period of six months. this is my sixth month at this firm and im sure my review was good, they really like me
. should i wait for my boss or should I initiate the topic myself? Would it be rude or stupid to bring up a raise myself?
Re: asking for a raise…
I have always had half yearly reviews and yearly reviews. The yearly reviews are the ones that are usually followed by a salaray raise. The raise is discussed during the review as well. If you were promissed a raise in your first review after six month, you should have asked about it during the review- there is absoultely nothing wrong with that. If this raise was said to be a conditional raise with a very specific goal in mind and you did not achieve that for some reason then its a different story.
If you think that everyone is really happy and that you are doing a good job, use yous acomplishments and responsibilities at the job when asking for a raise…
For example…
Customer satisfaction you’ve achieved
Tight deadlines you’ve met or beat
Solutions you’ve implemented
Products or services you’ve improved
Initiative you’ve demonstrated
Extra hours you’ve worked voluntarily, etc
Re: asking for a raise....
in simplicity with all things being satisfactory;
- if your boss said that you will be getting a raise then you should be expecting a rise.
Most companies have the probationary period review face-to-face with either the line manager or the HR dept. I would ask for it at that point. If you don't have this then I believe its worth asking the boss later on incorporating the above mentioned points by Asif.
Re: asking for a raise....
Talkin about money is a sensitive issue (ya i know duhhh!)
If I were you I will wait until end of the year to have them give me a raise. Once the raise is given, at that time you can ask for a retro (previous cheques - since its due) - if they are not given to you.
To initiate a request for money right away (especially if the job is decent and you are getting decent $ rite now) doesn't leave a good impression on you.
IF that is not acceptable, then I would pass this idea to boss in a chit-chat (joke about that when you get your promised raised - u will bring donuts or something in office) - rather than talkin formally - so early
Also, I hope you do have that in writing somewhere (and not something that was promised/discussed during an interview)?
