Asking for a raise in Salary

Re: Asking for a raise in Salary

You are right, it depends on the culture of the company as well as the industry you are working in but switching jobs without even discussing the raise isn’t a suggestion I would give. Send an email asking for a meeting with the concerned person who is responsible for increments. In some companies, its generally more than 1 person so make sure everyone is there. Do your homework before you go to that meeting though, like how much other companies are giving to people with same skill level and experience so you can quote that. Do not send an email asking for a raise. Its so impersonal and if not phrased right, can be offensive at times (suggesting that the company doesn’t care about the employees enough to offer them a raise etc). In a one-on-one meeting at least you would know what kind of reaction your request is getting and you can carry on with the conversation accordingly. If the raise isn’t as per your expectations, then you can start applying to find another job.
