Re: Asking for a raise in Salary

:)well in Pakistan i have seen employs waiting for right time, the time when company really needs them:hoonh: and at that time they come saying that they have a better offer from some other company and wish to join that other company, upon which their current company request them to say;) and offers them the same somewhat equal to the offer they had (no telling if they truly had an offer:cb:) But since now time has changed a lot, now companies can easily say goodbye:waves: to their old employs knowing they can find more new employs with ease, so now its like “Jitna Mil raha hay Allah ka bara shukar hay” :dannyboy:

Re: Asking for a raise in Salary

yeah usually companies are very tough when it comes to giving a suitable raise .. hence this question , do you feel generally insecure asking for a raise? specially when you dont have another job lined up as a back up.. would you still ask for a raise?

Re: Asking for a raise in Salary

Infact yes i did asked for a raise in my last organisation, they gave me 25% rise.(my field dont have many professionals so i had upper hand any way)

It is easier if your line manager is helpfull and understands your problem. Pay raise is not usualy related to HR department as if your department head is fine with it he can fight for it. It also depends on type of your deprtment, cost centre/Income generation source etc. If you can justify (comparitive salary with'n organisation and with'n peer group ) and more importantly if your boss is cooperative.

Re: Asking for a raise in Salary

You are right, it depends on the culture of the company as well as the industry you are working in but switching jobs without even discussing the raise isn't a suggestion I would give. Send an email asking for a meeting with the concerned person who is responsible for increments. In some companies, its generally more than 1 person so make sure everyone is there. Do your homework before you go to that meeting though, like how much other companies are giving to people with same skill level and experience so you can quote that. Do not send an email asking for a raise. Its so impersonal and if not phrased right, can be offensive at times (suggesting that the company doesn't care about the employees enough to offer them a raise etc). In a one-on-one meeting at least you would know what kind of reaction your request is getting and you can carry on with the conversation accordingly. If the raise isn't as per your expectations, then you can start applying to find another job.
