yeah usually companies are very tough when it comes to giving a suitable raise .. hence this question , do you feel generally insecure asking for a raise? specially when you dont have another job lined up as a back up.. would you still ask for a raise?

Infact yes i did asked for a raise in my last organisation, they gave me 25% rise.(my field dont have many professionals so i had upper hand any way)

It is easier if your line manager is helpfull and understands your problem. Pay raise is not usualy related to HR department as if your department head is fine with it he can fight for it. It also depends on type of your deprtment, cost centre/Income generation source etc. If you can justify (comparitive salary with’n organisation and with’n peer group ) and more importantly if your boss is cooperative.
