Asif, yorkers and tail!

Can you guys recall a yorker or really full length delivery from Asif in this series or the other? He is arguably the best exponent of seam bowling currently in action but I wonder if yorker and reverse swing are somewhat infants in his armory.
In last test Ntini and Nel hit few easy runs off him and same happened in this test.

I remember Gul had similar problems but under waqar he learnt the art of yorkers. I wish Waqar had the chance to do the same with Asif.

p.s we keep forgetting though its only his 10th test

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

Just like how Sami cannot bowl a good length delivery, Asif cannot bowl a full length yorker type of delivery:D :p. I've seen him try a few times in ODI's but it always turns out to be a full toss.

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

Asif should stay as is, if he goes for ‘yorkers’ he might turn into another Sami :mocking:

Though I agree he should learn and practise it.

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

50.1 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, no run, Driven away to the off side but delines the single

50.2 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, (no ball) FOUR, WALLOP! Asif oversteps and bowls it full outside off, Boucher gets it in his zone and launches a slog over midwicket for a huge six. What a cracking blow that was, five added to the total there
50.2 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, 2 runs, Full and straight, Boucher drives crisply to long-on and the ball races away towards the fence. Mohammad Yousuf runs around and gets a hand to it but the ball trickles away towards the boundary. He kicks the ball away in the last moment and the third umpire confirms that it's not a four. Just two there

50.3 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, 1 no ball, Another no-ball from Asif. Full and way outside off. Boucher throws his bat but can't reach it. Scores level now.

50.3 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, 1 no ball, BLAST! This is sensational. Another short ball from Asif and Boucher goes for the pull again. Ball catches the top edge and flies away to fine leg. The ball pitches just short of the rope and he has to settle for four. Kaneria wasn't back on the boundary and might have had a chance if he was in the right place.

50.3 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, FOUR, TAKE THAT! Slightly short from Asif but Boucher on a roll now. He's ready for the pull and carts it to midwicket for another four. Beats the fielders. Expensive over from Asif and Boucher doing what he does best - snatching the advantage just when all seems lost.

50.4 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, FOUR, BLAST! This is sensational. Another short ball from Asif and Boucher goes for the pull again. Ball catches the top edge and flies away to fine leg. The ball pitches just short of the rope and he has to settle for four. Kaneria wasn't back on the boundary and might have had a chance if he was in the right place.

50.4 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, FOUR, That's the best shot of them all. In the slot, full and straight. Boucher pulls out a lofted straight drive of the highest quality and rips it straight down the ground for a huge six. This is an outstanding over for South Africa

50.5 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, no run, Another short ball. Boucher resists the temptation this time. Ducks under it.

50.6 Mohammad Asif to Boucher, SIX, in the slot and Boucher lofts it over the long-on fence. That's the best shot of the over. Huge six and Boucher seemed to be waiting for that delivery. Out of the screws and a clean strike over the bowlers head. What an emphatic end to an over! 22 from it and Boucher is motoring along

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

ok, so? :konfused:

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

asif does'nt have the pace to be effective with reverse swing..and his yokers wont work either with that pace..he needs to keep doing what he does best which is to hit the seam and bowl line and length

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

To janab agar aap nay baat cherr li hay, to paish-e-khidmat hay

Sreesanth will share the new ball. He copped a fearful hammering in Nagpur and missed the game at Cuttack. He’s bouncing in from over the wicket to Smith.
1.1 Sreesanth to Smith, FOUR, short and wide outside the off stump, a real loosner from Sreesanth, Smith rocks back and cuts hard through point for four
1.2 Sreesanth to Smith, 5 Wides, oh that’s terrible from Sreesanth, the seam’s perfectly upright as usual but it’s very wide outside off stump and it’s too wide for Karthik to collect it, five wides down to the third man fence
1.2 Sreesanth to Smith, 5 Wides, what’s going on here, this one’s sprayed down leg side, and so wide that Karthik didn’t even attempt to collect that, five more wides, 14 runs off one ball so far
1.2 Sreesanth to Smith, no run, good length ball on off stump, he bowled that with a scrambled seam, defended on the back foot on the off side
1.3 Sreesanth to Smith, no run, fullish length with a lot of swing back into the left hander, Smith was beaten by the swing and got hit on the pad
1.4 Sreesanth to Smith, no run, good length loutside the off stump, that swung back into the left-hander as well, Smith watched it closely and let it go
1.5 Sreesanth to Smith, FOUR, superb placement, that was a rather good ball but Smith gets forward and punches between cover and mid-off, he picks the gap and times it sweetly enough to reach the fence
1.6 Sreesanth to Smith, FOUR, that’s a rank half-volley and Smith thumps it thorugh cover for four more, Sreesanth finishes a nightmare over

End of over 2 (22 runs)- West Indies 26/1 (243 runs required from 48 overs, RR: 13.00, RRR: 5.06)

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

what pace does he bowl at? I thought he bowls 80-85 mph and that is the speed of Rana's bowling as well.

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

no rana is a bit faster...in this series asif is bowling around 78 to 80 miles an hour on average which is ok...but for reverse to be effective u need to be around 88 miles an hour atleast..that why waqar was so good at it.

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

Not too sure why I posted it.
Woke up and read that Asif went for 22 runs in an over. Thought it would be interesting to post the details of the over here.

To Zero_one : I am no fan of Sree Santh…in fact I will say that Asif is way more talented.

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

all credit to our beloved coach, he prefer line and length, tail or no tail :naraz: speaking of that there are no slower balls or using his height to bowl off-cuter, which Shabbir use to do.

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

asif is getting tired,he has bowled so many overs in this series..you can see it in his bowling in this innings and towards the end of the previous innings too..the venom is not there..he needs rest

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

My, feeling gracious today aren't we. :D

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

Problem is that beside Kaneria he seems the only option to run through SA if luck favours (read Umpires) us to win this match otherwise at some stage even Kaneria will go for runs, forget about Nazir, Sami and the part timer

So SA did it today and will do it tomorrow again, namely wait until Asif is done with his bit of bowling and then attack the guy who replaces him coz at the other end it will be Kaneria who will difficult to score off.

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

I don't think so, he is definitely equal or pacier than Razzaq who regularly bowls 80++ mph. Can anyone else verify pls?

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

Asif is seriously not used to getting hit around (he has been that damn good in the past year). He will learn. Hold your horses, you wrist-slitters.

Re: Asif, yorkers and tail!

Asif bowls between 80-84 mph. Where as when Rana is going for those swinging yorkers, he can bowl up to 88, 89 miles per hour. I don’t think Rana has touched 90 mph.
