It’s good to see Javed Hashmi talking realistic about his own party leader. Javed Hashmi is repected in Pakistani by everyone even by people belonging to other political parties. If the system is allowed to continue we will see more and more people taking positon on principles and not afraid of the family leadership of their parties…previously we saw Aitzaz taking position on principles against his party on many issues…
I wonder what will happen in if some of members 0f MQM decide to take principled stance…previously they have the record of murdering anyone who disagreed even slightly…no matter if they belonged to their party or not…latest example of bullying Geo also depicts the mindset of this terrorist group…presently led by a mafia style self exiled leader…

PML-N senior vice president further said democracy was the only way to save the country. “Those who have earned votes in the name of democracy should be clear that conflict will be there if democracy is absent,” he added.
Talking about role of student unions in connection with provision of political leaders, he said if leaders were not produced from educational institutions then feudal lords, generals and industrialists would continue sticking like leeches.
He said politics in university must be for the betterment of the institution and this was not possible without a code of conduct. He said students would have to run the government in future therefore educational institutions should be turned into a base for them. He said Quaid-e-Azam had formed Muslims Students Federation (MSF), adding, “If student organizations were needed for creation of Pakistan, these were also needed to save Pakistan today.” He also talked about days of student unions when he was a student leader at the Punjab University, saying at that time student used to do politics on principles.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Secretary General Jahangir Badr said all the political parties would have to sacrifice by not allowing its student wings to work in educational institutions. He said, “It is my personal experience that all organizations in educational institutions are working as political parties.”
He said the issue of the wings of political parties could be solved by calling an all parties conference (APC) suggesting all political parties should announce elimination of their wings from the universities.
He said only youth wings of political parties should be allowed to move forward under the student unions. He suggested all parties should form “Political Academy” to train youth for student unions, adding the PPP was going to establish its academy to train those students/youth wishing to join politics.
Referring to various regimes of dictators in Pakistan, Jahangir Badr said polarization of students had turned student politics violent in the country. “Peaceful academic environment was turned into a battlefield by dictatorship,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Imran Khan said Pakistan was on the crossroads today and could not survive if reforms were not made. “The reform comes from system of justice”, he said, adding, “Might is right only in the animal kingdom.”
He said it was unfortunate that killers and dacoits were serving on top slots while poor masses were being punished. He added a senior police official had told him that 50 to 60 per cent of prisoners in Pakistani jails were innocent people.

“How people will pay taxes when our leaders themselves do not pay taxes,” he questioned, adding, “A true leader is one who sacrifices and does not begs.”
The PTI chief further said that overseas Pakistanis were the biggest assets of the country, adding their 200 billion dollars were invested in foreign countries. He said if all the politicians and expatriates bring back their money there would be no need of seeking support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
He said every year overseas Pakistani donated Rs 1 billion to Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital, adding if they trust the leadership of the country there would be no need of any loan.
Imran further said overseas Pakistanis would not invest money in the country until they trust the government and the courts. “When courts become part of the government, it is called abuse of power,” he added.
He said corrupt leaders would never restore deposed Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. “Only one thing differentiates West from the third world countries and that is independent courts,” he added.
Talking about student unions, Imran Khan said physical force should not be used for solving differences rather there should be a need for intellectual debate for the solution of problems relating to students.
He said man should always have expertise of politics and if youth of the country were politically trained then national leaders could not do any injustice.
He urged the students to focus on their studies along with politics and if they protest, they must keep in mind that it should not affect their educational career.
PML-N MNA Khawaja Saad Rafique said there was lack of democracy in wings of political parties in the educational institutions, adding these were very harmful as political leaders used students for their stakes and to gain power.
He said the students’ first duty was to complete education. He said if a student wanted to join politics, he should join the youth wing of a political party instead of doing politics in varsity. He claimed that there was no justification of establishing student wings of political parties in the educational institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Liaquat Baloch of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) said Pakistani youth had the ability to lead the country and get rid of the present crisis, adding that the students were guardians of Pakistan’s future. He thanked the vice-chancellor for organizing such an educational and healthy debate so that political parties could feel their responsibilities.
He said there was no doubt that politics and education were separate fields. He said we should determine our preference and organize our new generation keeping in view the present national crisis and that there was dire need that educational institutions should contribute the most in the modern era of education and research. He said students should spend a disciplined life. He said the PU has a dynamic leader in form of Dr Mujahid Kamran and organization of this discussion was a proof that he wanted unity in the university.
Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami said there should only be non-political student unions in educational institutions. He said student union was a basic right of students and they should be given this right so that after completing education, students could play their role in the development of country. He said if student unions had link with any political organization, it was harmful for institutions. He said there was dire need to explain the limits of student unions so that students could not cross their limits.
He said according to his personal opinion, such a code of conduct should be made under which political activities could not be allowed in the varsity premises. If any student wanted to enter in politics, he/she must go outside the educational institution.
Shami stressed on the need to establish student unions as soon as possible and urged the political parties to promise not to interfere in the educational institutions. He said congenial educational atmosphere should be promoted in the institutions. He appealed to the higher authorities that institution’s respect must be kept in view while taking any decision.
Speaking on the occasion, VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said PU was the oldest and largest institution and it was the right of PU that high leadership of the country came here. He said this world was like a battlefield where there were clashes among nations and only those nations would succeed whose leaders were courageous and brave.
He advised the students that they should focus on their studies, adding it was their primary objective. He said there was complete freedom in PU and everybody could present their views but nobody would be allowed to enforce his/her will on others. He said protest was the right of students but they should keep in mind that their first preference, education, does not get affected. He said we should focus on our solidarity and unity.
Dr Mujahid Kamran said good deeds were only those which make the country strong. He urged for development of an environment of harmony so that creative abilities of students could be polished and promoted.
It is worth mentioning here that a large number of student activists of different organizations including Islami Jamiat Tulaba (IJT), Insaf Students Federation (ISF) and University Students Federation (USF) etc were present outside the venue of the seminar.
They chanted slogans in favour of their organizations. Their presence caused trouble for the PU administration, which had appointed a large number of security guards to avoid any untoward incident. Later, some Jamiat activists also took out a rally in connection with restoration of student unions.
