Pakistan squad for Asia Cup would be announced today (Thursday). National selection committee has completed initial consultations in this connection.
A 15-member team would be announced today after approval of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Dr. Nasim Ashraf.
The training camp of the team would be commenced from June 21. **Sarfaraz Ahmad will likely replace Kamran Akmal as wicketkeeper **whereas spinner Abdul Rehman also having bright chances to be a part of the team.

The Selection Committee of Pakistan Cricket Board has announced squad of 20 possible players for the up-coming Asia Cup here on Thursday.
The training camp on 22 June would decide the final 15 players for the cup. The Chairman of Selection Committee announced the names of the players here in Lahore while Kamran Akmal has been dropped for the purpose of imparting rest. Sarfaraz Ahmed is on for Akmal.
Shoaib Malik, Salman Butt, Younus Khan, Muhammad Yousuf, Misbah-ul-Haque, Shahid Afridi, Fawwad Alam, Sohail Tanveer, Sarfaraz Ahmad, Umar Gul, Rao Iftekhar, Sohail Khan, Wahab Riaz, Nasir Jamsheed, Yasir Hameed, Bazeed Khan, Nouman Ullah, Mansoor Amjad, Saeed Ajmal, and Abdul Rauf are included.
The training camp would get underway from 20 June in Karachi.
P.S. they were supposed to announce final team 2day ........... but well ......... i think PCB always look to delay **any **decision as long as they can ........

Finally, some one else is being given a chance behind the stumps for an entire series. I guess they had enough of Akmal. That means though, Nasir Jamshed or Yasir Hameed will open with Salman Butt. However, Nomanullah usually plays at #3 for his team in domestic cricket. It would be interesting to see if Nomanullah could be pushed to open...Hmmm.

There is no Abdur Rehman in the preliminary 20 man squad announced today. It should be the same squad as the Bangladesh Tri-Series, of course Sarfraz replacing Akmal. Maybe Bazid Khan being replaced by Yasir Hameed (as they need openers) and Abdur Rauf replacing Wahab Riaz.

The series is in Pakistan, so they can always call anyone into the squad when someone gets injured.

now the question is who is going to open since Akmal has be "rested".
Now that Akmal is being rested, hopefully they will open with specialist openers like Butt, Hameed, or Jamshed for the whole series. Bowling dept. looks weak but you never know. They can win matches if they apply themselves. They will defenitly miss Asif Charsi. :)

Hi all,
I hope Salman Butt gets a permanent opening partner but knowing our nation's 'patch-work' mentality, they will promote Afridi up the order to accomodate an extra bowler and hoping that Afridi gets some semblence of batting form back in his game.

Malik indicated that in the absence of Kamran Akmal, who has been dropped from the Asia Cup, he might open with Salman Butt. But he was quick to add that the final decision over the batting order will be taken after a team meeting on Monday (today).
“I will be playing as an allrounder,” he added.

LOL...fun to watch but disaster for our own team. I'm sure a lot of Sri Lankan, Indian and Bangali batsmen are disapointed by Akmal's dropping.
