Asia Cup - Phase 2: PAK vs SL

Sri Lankans don't seem to have any problems facing the spinners. I am not sure how valuable Kaneria will be against them. Might make sense to bowl an extra fast bowler (Shabbir or Gul). At the same time, I hope Pak batsmen are able to face the Lankan spinners with some authority. Those guys are turning yards.

I dont think it is a good Idea.
Pakistan will need an spinner other than Malik considering that wicket are helpful for spinners . Also he brings variety to bowling lineup.

"This team is so bad, that (even) Afridi might get a call" (ME)

We are going to have to go with Shoaib, Sami, Kaneria, and Malik, and Razzaq. The same team that played against Bdesh. We definetly need Razzaq for late hitting.

Is ARY gonna air that match?

^ Thats what they say.

I will agree with F&B. These pitches are riduculously favor spin bowling and Kaneria had a good outing against SL in sharjah last year, the only time he played against them.

I think Malik and Farhat provide enough spin. We need the batting firepower in the likes of Razzaq to the match the batting prowess of India and Sri Lanka.

It might sound radical but why not try this team..

Yasir
Malik
Younis
Youhanna
Inzi
Razzaq
Moin
Sami
Shoaib
Shabbir
Danish

Just need to ask either Malik or Younis to open with Yasir Hameed.

You get 5 bowler & Razzaq as backup bowler. And pretty good batting lineup of 7 batsmen if you count Moin as one.

^ I dunno, noway would I trust Younis with the new ball. And nope, Moin doesn't cut it anymore as a batsman....tail is too long.

^ will agree with Moin comment but not with younis's one. He can play the new ball alright. But he is fine at number 6.

:k: Agreed. Younis is less effective down the order..

I remmember him cloberring the bowlers all over the place in World Cup warm up games. We all knew what happened afterwards..

Exactly, If he is good enough to play at No.3 then he can open also. there is only a difference of one ball between Opener and No.3.

To be very honest I dont think pak gonna win this match

^
but sri lanka hasnt been in much form either lately…
(dil ke khush rakhney ko ghalib ye khayal accha hai) sigh

we can try malik as an opener…
he can be a slow opener but if yasir is getting in the runs, then we can afford malik staying there for a time, and we know he’ll start hitting as the inning progresses…
and younis can come one-down…

so we’ll have…
yasir
malik
younis
inzi
youhanna

razzaq
moin

shoaib
sami
shabir
kaneria

this way we will have very few batsmen…
and playing too many all-rounders wont be a very good idea…
so dont know what the pak team management will think… :konfused:

You cheater. You copied my Idea. :p: I will sue you.
Mere Ideas mat chura. :nono:

and u r suggesting that pakistan is in awful good form these days??? seems like u had a good dream last night...i too had a good dream that bdesh beats india in round 2....but my dear, we don't live in the world of dreams...

if u call beating HK and BDesh in good form, then u better wait till tomorrow...

as for malik, he can be a good 1-down player, but i dont think that he will be that successful in the opening slot...we have problem with our openers since the sohail/anwar pair broke up...i think that PCB needs to work on this problem and get it resolved soon...farhat does have the talent, but it is RAW...its the board's job to refine it..moreover, inzi has to come forward and claim the responsibility of 1-down or 2-down player...he is the kind of player, who can get the biggies most of the time...

Pakistan seek winning start in Asia Cup super league](Yahoo is part of the Yahoo family of brands.)

COLOMBO (AFP) - Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq said his team needed to win the opening Asia Cup super league match against Sri Lanka in order to boost their confidence for the rest of the tournament.

“The first match in the super league is important,” Inzamam said ahead of Wednesday’s clash against the hosts. “If we win, our confidence will soar for the game against India.”

India take on Bangladesh in Wednesday’s other super league match. The four teams play each other once with the top two advancing to the final on August 1.

Inzamam, who side clashes with arch-rivals India on Sunday, said he was relieved Pakistan were not the tournament favourites since it allowed them to perform in pressure-free conditions.

“We are happy that all the attention is on India and Sri Lanka and that allows us to play our matches without pressure,” he said.

Pakistan won both their preliminary group A matches against Bangladesh and first-timers Hong Kong.

Sri Lanka topped group B after beating India and the United Arab Emirates.

New Pakistani coach Bob Woolmer said his team was looking beyond the “needle” clash against Sourav Ganguly’s Indians.

“Every time these two teams play it is a big match with a lot of emotions attached to it,” he said.

“But I think the players are looking beyond the India match. I don’t think they are seeking any revenge, but they remain stunned by their home defeats against India and it will be a needle encounter.”

Pakistan lost both the one-day and Test series against India at home in March-April.

India go into the super league worried over the fitness to key fast bowler Zaheer Khan and the batting form.

Zaheer is doubtful due to a hamstring injury sustained while fielding during the last game against Sri Lanka at Dambulla on Sunday.

“Zaheer is a concern, especially for the match against Bangladesh,” Ganguly said of the paceman, who is likely to be replaced with Ashish Nehra.

Zaheer, with 126 wickets in 84 one-dayers, has been in and out of the team for the past eight months due to the injury. He missed a major part of the Australian tour last season before skipping two Tests in Pakistan.

The famed Indian batting also failed to live up its reputation in the first two matches, with Rahul Dravid alone looking in good touch with a hundred and a half-century.

“We still have an opportunity,” Ganguly said. “The points system is such that we start all over again and hence we will have the chance to make amends.”

Sri Lanka are hopeful that captain Marvan Atapattu and hard-hitting opener Sanath Jayasuriya will be fit for the super-league matches.

Jayasuriya missed the last match against India due to a side strain, while Atapattu left the field after compiling a half-century due to a sore throat.

“We hope Sanath will be fit,” the captain said. “We want him in the side as soon as possible. We have many options when he plays.”
