Re: Asia Cup: Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka...29th June 2008
SL wins by 64 runs
a well deserved win
a superb paced 100 by Sangakarra
302 simply to too much for Pakistan against a formidable ODI attack
2 matches to go for Pakistan but as things stand it'll most probably an India vs. SL final ..... only 2 big margin wins for Pakistan can make a shot at the final spot available ..... but as we all know it's a uphill task

Pathetic batting performance. Salman Butt is our first choice opener but he has went in first over without scoring all three times he opened with Malik. Is he jinxed by Malik?
Afridi seriously needs to bring some semblance of sense back in his batting. Late Bob Woolmer made a proper reliable all rounder off him for two three years but Lawson cannot do that. These days he is concentrating more on his bowling to keep himself in the team, which is still top notch.

^Unless Pakistan can find a better ODI spinner than Afridi, why not consider Afridi as only a bowler in the team and not formulate any plans around his "potential" with the bat. His batting, when it comes off, should be considered as BONUS.
Afridi made his debut as a BOWLER...and that is how it should be....pure and simple.
It reminds me of Irfan Pathan who started off only as a bowler....then people found out that he could also bat well...then suddenly Irfan was being asked to bat in the top order (sometimes even open the innings). For the player himself, having all-round capabilities is sometimes a double-edged sword....people expect you to perform in both departments...(and I don't think they get paid any more than the specialist players for added job responsibilities).
And do what when it comes to wicket-keeping? Keep taking awards for the ones that he held onto while dropping others like flies? Sarfaraz Ahmed looks someone with a lot of potential. We have been waiting for the replacement for almost two years. Akmal had infinite series to prove his worth before he was finally kicked out by the selectors (note: still supported by the captain). Three matches of this guy and his head is called on the table.

Squeeky is being 'rested' I won't be surprised if he is back in the side in the future series as a regular keeper.

I have never been one of those calling for Afridi's exclusion just because he is so erratic with the ball. He should not be dropped and should bat at 7. If he comes off with the bat, yes it is a bonus otherwise he earns his place in the side purely on bowling merit.
