9.5/10
subracting .5 cause they went on repeating that Joddha was a devort Hindu and the Mughals were blood-thirsty, and like they made Joddha look like some really strong woman with a mind of her own and Akbar as some great king who would go to any lengths to establish secularism blah blah blah. like these two were some picture perfect ppl.
and didnt knw, there were Royal Hijras too in the Mughal court!
According to wikipedia, Harka Bai (wife of Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar)was rechristened Mariam-uz-zamani. Mariam-uz-zamani was never called Jodha Bai instead Jodha Bai was the wife of Prince Salim, future emperor Jahangir.
^ what? which Wikipedia page says that... the contributor needs to get his facts straight. That's why you're not supposed to trust Wikipedia as a genuine source of information.
Khair, Jodhabai was given the title of Mariam-uz-Zamani by Akbar after he married her. She was his third wife... and she was the mother of Salim/Jehangir who was the heir to Akbar's throne.
That article might have confused Jodhabai with Jodh Bai... Salim was married to Jodh Bai - the princess of Jodhpur.
Hey... you're at U of T right? - take the "History of Muslims in India & Pakistan" course there... you'll learn a lot. A couple of other guppies here have taken that course too.
btw even in the movie they stated (in the very very begining) that even till today there are speculations that her name was not Jodhaa, but some historian say her name was Harka or hirta (cant really read these titles cuz of their low quality on You Tube)...and some say this...but still not sure.
but the movie showes as if their love was something eternal...k even the bhajan she was singing made Akbar, her Diwana :D
...but movie no where showed his religious devotions. that what he does when he listens to Recitation of Quran.
...besides we are talking here about the same Akbar who introduced his own religion, and also who buried Anar-kali alive....so God knows what the movie was trying to prove there.
from hinduism POV ya he was a good leader otherwise Islamic POV he was a good leader but also a very ayash pasand.
*btw was he used to roam around in cities among general public, like we get to hear about Hazrat Umer RA? *
^ This movie just tries to highlight one facet of Akbar's life and I am sure Ashutosh G has taken some cinematic liberties. It should just be seen as a entertainer, and not as some historical reference.
^ All over the world, commercial movies made on "history" do take some cinematic liberties. And the character of Jodha has been particularly disputed by the Hindus & Muslims in India, and even by the Rajput clan to which she supposedly belonged.
If one wants to watch "history", there are plenty of documentaries available :)
lol. i know what you mean there. though cinematography was awesome but cinematic liberties were more like larger than life :D…its like retelling the history in your own way.
btw if he wasnt retelling it in his own way then we might not see his comfortability with the camera.
else we are aware of this Akbar…not the one that jodha had. an awesome Shoman work
^ not necessarily jodha was there cuz if i m not wrong even having so much love for radha...err i mean jodha (as the movie showed) he married again and again. :D
^hmmm acha usne kafi shaadiyan ki thi? well kiya sirf jodha hi uski hindu biwi thi ya baqi mein se mein bhi thi....well if jodha was his only hindu biwi then shoman video showed naima khan as jodha otherwise u r right that it cud be any of his wife.....
