Re: Ashes 2013
So what is up? Aussies forgot how to bat as well?
Re: Ashes 2013
Aussie batting is their obvious weak link. They lack a genuine middle order batsman in the entire squad apart from the captain (Clarke). Michael Hussey (a match winner) should have retired after the Ashes in 2013/14 imo.

Whether Clarke is responsible for that I don’t know.
What Australia are also missing at the moment is a genuine test spinner. Ashton Agar and Nathan Lyon (who might replace Agar in the 3rd test) are not the answer to their woes.
Peter Siddle apart the Aussie bowling is okish (still 4 bowlers averaging < 30 with the ball) http://stats.espncricinfo.com/the-ashes-2013/engine/records/averages/batting_bowling_by_team.html?id=7362;team=2;type=series
Pattinson who made an explosive debut 2 years ago has been a big disappointment. He has a back fracture which has ended his tour prematurely

Because of the World Cup in Aus/NZ in 2015, England and Australia are playing back to back Ashes this year. The Australian leg starts in Nov 2013.

DRS again in the news

Re: Ashes 2013
BCCI had a point after all.
Re: Ashes 2013
Khawaja's dismissal was another absolute howler. DRS clearly showed no edge. Even the commentators were sure it would be overturned but the 3rd umpire saw it differently. Umpires keep making these mistakes and when they get a chance to correct it, they still get it wrong.
Re: Ashes 2013
BCCI had a point after all.
DRS didn't get it wrong, umpires did.
Re: Ashes 2013
DRS didn't get it wrong, umpires did.
DRS is not just the machine. Its the system of umpires and the machine.
End result is, it is not as advertised and decisions are worse. Like it or hate it, BCCI really knew what it was talking about.
PS. Even machine is not up to the mark. Technology has to evolve further while bringing the cost down if we want it to interfere with our games.
Re: Ashes 2013
Easily Australia's best day of the Ashes so far
*303/3
*
Clarke 125*, his 24th test hundred in his 95th test for Australia

Another Century for Clarke ![]()

DRS = Dismal Review System
or more aptly Dismal Umpires Reviewing System
Re: Ashes 2013
As go Hussies, so go Aussies.
^ Apun bhi joke marega, Bole tho.
Re: Ashes 2013
A much improved batting performance by Australia. 527/7d. Clarke 187
Can they win this test?
Re: Ashes 2013
DRS = Dismal Review System
or more aptly Dismal Umpires Reviewing System
that changes to DURS then ..the umpires giving their durs on how not to use DRS.
Re: Ashes 2013
Dhakkan Review System :D
Re: Ashes 2013
Every system has its drawbacks but DRS has proved to be good regardless of what BCCI thinks. It has resulted in much improved decision with a few errors which have more to do with the umpires mishandling the situation instead of DRS. I think we should persist with it. With time the errors will be ironed out.
on another point a few years ago when Aussies were invincible everyone was going on about their system and how they keep producing world class players because of the academies and their brilliant system. What happened to all that? They are struggling to produce world class players now. Apart form Clarke and to some extent watson the rest are just ordinary. It proves it is not the system but talent. The talent for the time being has disappeared, just like in Windies and Pakistan.
