Ahl as-Sunnah are the Jumhur (majority) of the nation of prophet Muhammad, salla-l-lahu ^alayhi wa sallam. Their belief which was followed by as-Salaf and al-Khalaf is that Allah exists and is eternal. Nothing other than Allah is eternal. Everything other than Allah is created. Allah tabaraka wa ta^ala is clear from resembling the world in any aspect. He is the Creator of everything. He is the Creator of the bodies of the slaves, their movements and their states of being at rest. No one creates that other than He.
The Muslim does not go out of al-’Islam by just committing a sin from among the sins no matter how enormous and big this sin may be. If the Muslim rules not according the shar^ because of bribe or because of any reason, he does not go out of al-’Islam.
During the previous centuries, the Muslims dealt with one another without accusing with kufr the ones who rules for a bribe or for something else.
Muslims are following this ideology which was followed by as-Salaf and al-Khalaf. We consider one misguided if he departs from following this principle.
We work according to the advice of the prophet, salla-l-lahu ^alayhi wa sallam: Abide by the Jama^ah and beware of disunity. The Shaytan goes with the one who is alone and is further away from two people together. The one who is seeking the luxury of Paradise, let him adhere to the Jama^ah.
There is no meaning for the Jama^ah in this hadith except that it refers to abiding by what the Jumhur of the prophet’s nation followed. The meaning of the Jama^ah here in not the jama^ah of as-salah.
Majority of Muslims follow this principle and we call upon whoever have gone astray from that route to come back and abide by this principle. From among those who went astray are the ones who followed an innovated idea which appeared 1250 years ago, and an idea originated 50 years ago, and like that other idea which was originated in Palestine 50 years ago.
This Jumhur was known as the Asha^irah and Maturidiyyah since 1100 years. This nomenclature, al-Asha^irah and al-Maturidiyyah, is an exposition of what the Jumhur of the nation used to follow before that. It does not refer to something that was introduced during that time.
The meaning of al-Asha^irah and al-Maturidiyyah refers to the followers of those who were before them from the nation of prophet Muhammad, salla-l-lahu ^alayhi wa sallam. This is what is meant by this nomenclature and nothing else.
When the negators, who went away from what the Jumhur used to follow, increased in number, the Jumhur was named by a name which made them distinguished from others. This name was the Asha^irah and Maturidiyyah. In deed, there is no difference between these two groups in the Foundations of Belief. The difference between them is in some minor differences which does not relate to the Foundations of the Belief.
This is like the difference that took place among the Sahabah. It is like what ^A’ishah said that the prophet did not see his Lord and the saying of Ibn ^Abbas who said that the prophet saw his Lord. This is a difference in the minor details of the Belief and not in the Foundations. Al-Maturidiyyah and al-Asha^irah are one group in the Foundations of the Belief. Each group of those two groups is adhering to guidance. They follow what the Jumhur of the nation used to follow.
