Thanks for your views. Not going to discuss the politics related issues you’ve mentioned because I know people from both sides who are firm in their views with similar arguments. Still even if lot of Indians you have come across have those views we cannot really generalise for all individual Indians. Just like I cannot generalise my experiences with any ethnicity, whether Pakistanis or whatever ethnicity, to saying lot of them have those views. I don’t see how an individual ordinary Indian is responsible for actions you mention. Just like an ordinary Pakistani is not responsible for all the actions of their government etc Also i believe the happenings in the region are the powerplay of many countries not just india pakistan.
I respect Pakistanis as a separate country and nationality. Many countries in Asia who may look similar are separate countries. Even US and Canada are separate. I respect your perspective of the reasons you mention as having differing identity.

I disagree that lot of Indians pooh pooh the idea of Pakistan. Maybe conservatives and extremely religious people or those nostalgic of a utopian past do but 70 years later it is a reality to be accepted. I can’t speak for those you’ve met but I have lived in India and abroad, but not north america, and I have not come across such people. They may exist but most young Indians i know who are ordinary people realise that common person on either side just wants to have a normal life. They like Pakistani songs and Pakistani bands and singers perform here and some like me like Pakistani dramas.
Being indian is not a label i wear but i mention out of open disclosure. I wouldnt last long pretending to be what im not. Not really proud of all that’s happening there with rapes and all. If Pakistanis are generalised in West then Indians have not got a good reputation either these days. Neither do i think lot of indians support terrorism just like ordinary Pakistanis. We’d like our subcontinental region to be a place which is stable and up to par with the first world. Ordinary citizens are victims of terrorism and corrupt government incompetence. Before foreigners affect us we’re more likely to be let down by our own government who sees lives as dispensible in attacks and natural disasters.

And believe it or not there are actually quite a few Indians in India, who may never have met a Pakistani, who see through media/politics, who feel sad and pain when attacks occur in Pakistan like in Karachi where innocent lives are lost. We feel more connection/can relate then we may feel of an attack in a non desi place because there is some cultural similarity. As an example i will post this link. Neither is this a tiny page. Facebook There are lot of positive comments in comparison to the usual India-Pakistan comment. Terrorists have no nationality or religion. They are not even human.

Not trying to change your views but giving an alternate perspective. Obviously you shouldn’t associate with those who does not respect your views or give dignity. That goes with anyone. All i ask is that when indians/pakistanis meet they judge each other on actions rather than past assumptions.
