As a nation

we are extremists, well that’s what I have concluded after observing recent events.

we tend to SWING in both extrems, let it be an issue regarding current event or showing our support for our leaders., or any other matter.

Take this emergency for an example! Mushi supporters are trying to convince that he is the best thing ever could happen to Pakistan, on the other hand Anti Mush group is behaving like if God forbid hell has broken loose on us.

in short we don’t have the capacity to weigh and react to certain issues in a balanced and rational way.

this is MY observation.

Re: As a nation

may be you can enlighten us what the reaction should be when a nation is kicked around by one same person? how we should behave, how we should "demonstrate" (if at all) etc.

Re: As a nation

captain but its not just in this 'emergency'
I agree with xenophanez, even before this happened ppl were nitpicking.. it had to be black and white, either a person is a devil or an angel. and its not something we have only begun to do recently, i mean even past events, anti zia ppl would nto acknowledge a single good thing that he did, anti ZAB ppl woukld not acknolwedge a single good thing that he did, while opponents will paint that as absolute evil.

its liek Pakistani politics is a war of good and evil, and set up like WWF/WWE wrestling. the bad guy is in charge so our hero will return and save the day.

Re: As a nation

^ there are people of all kinds, there are people who will justify even wrong/bad actions of leader of their camp, take Aalsi, Reza, Sa1eem for example... similarly there are people who will criticise someone regardless of his/her good actions. This is personality love/hate.

Re: As a nation

and it appears that is 95% of the population.

Re: As a nation

are you suggesting 95% population behind Musharraf or 95% population defending/justifying their leader regardless of an action?

Re: As a nation

the latter part.

Re: As a nation

^ phew thought you are gonna say former part :D

Re: As a nation

very well said... but i would say our nation is not extremists rather there r two strong, vocal groups in it... and which has made hostage of the most of the population...

i said few things in another thread... but i think they r more appropriate here..

I will just like to add three things quickly..

  • Who is the terrorist.? if musharraf accuses someone terrorist then does it make him a terrorist.? Why not let the Courts hear the arguments from both side and then decide and show a little civilization?

  • Why killing of people extra judicially other is more important than capturing of PEACEFUL human right activists ? Why not say ANY extra judicial act is condemnable... even if it involves killing or torturing or lathi charge or illegal detaining... being happy on the killing of the innocent people of opposite sect/group/views is not the way of a true muslim

  • if i view that some people are spreading hate, then does it give me the right to bombard them without proving their guilt.? I say i should have a free and easy access to the court and justice, where i can go easily and without fear and show my proofs and let the other party also have an equal chance to prove otherwise and then let the court decide on merit... It is really not too much of an asking..

It sad to see that we are not JUST even in our thinking... come on people... value the life of every person as long as he/she is not proved guilty in a court...

ps. not hoping to change much thinking, look like we are too far in our hatred now on both sides... whether we accept or not.

Re: As a nation

which group, the group that is engaged in, or supporting, or sheltering the locals and foriegners launching attacks into afghanistan using Pakistani soil as they hideouts. In doing so they have put the entire nation into a tough spot. That group by far as made an entire nation hostage to their so called jihad done at teh behest of their so called messiah OBL.

Re: As a nation

That's Bollywood's fault.
