DAWN Reviews “Kaisa Yeh Junoon”:
These days flaunting a fat budget seems to be the in thing for producers. Sunday primetime has always been a favourite slot for obvious reasons and this time as well there is plenty to look out for.

ARY screened the launch show promoting their mega serial Kaisa yeh junoon. Throughout the launch show, the budget of Rs70 million was mentioned many a time. Considering that Jawaid Sheikh squandered Rs80 million to make an outstanding box office flop, budgets don’t really guarantee anything, but the slick teasers and promos look quite promising. It is such a relief to see a perfect presentation without the typos that creep in on other channels and that makes the whole presentation look rather tacky.

The play boasts a stellar cast of Ayesha Omar and Asfar Rehman in the lead, along with Asif Reza, Madiha Iftikhar, Adnan Siddiqui, Savera Nadeem and Ali Kazmi to name just a few; the fact that Kiron Kher appears in a major support role says a lot about the production. The story revolves around the present day clash of values and western influence with tradition, culture and extremist religious issues as well as the obsession with money, land and power. There are some well choreographed songs and dances as well as wedding sequences; there is the usual love, emotion, tragedy and lots of intense drama with dialogue by Haseena Moin and story and direction by veteran Rana Sheikh.

Ayesha Omar looks lovely in perhaps one of the most challenging roles and looks like she has worked very hard. You can see a bit of Khuda ke liye there, too, but we have to wait with bated breath till the first episode goes on air July 27 to see how the drama unfolds. Sometimes the teasers and promos looked so good, one cannot help thinking why the mini screen when all this talent could be taken to 45mm.

Re: ARY's "Kaisa Yeh Junoon"

Pretty good stuff. I watched two episodes, and I'm hooked.

The print is pretty hazy though - its like looking through a foggy glass sometimes.
