Re: ARY films awards
I think around 10 movies were released in pakistan last year. Yaar think about how this dead industry has impacted the livelihood of thousands of people, all the way from the tea boys, to the electricians, technicians, extras, musicians. People only think about the actors and directors but it’s the ones at the bottom of hte ladder that have had the hardest hit. I was listening to NPR and they ran a story about a pakistani businessman who has made an effort to revive pakistani musicians and provide them with a platform to express their talent. Apparantly these men have been forced to give up their ancestral profession and take up odd jobs. I hope this effort by ARY to distribute pakistani movies last year and now to hodl these awards will encourage directors to make more content.
I also think it’s high time that movies and tv shows be made in local languages. Growing up, i used to watch dramas and shows on PTV in punjabi as the afternoon slots were dedicated to regional programs. When i used to spend my summer vacation in murree, they’d play similar shows in some other language. Pata nahi un becharay artists ka kia hooa? none of the private channels air anything in regional languages though I hear a pashtu drama is coming out soon. anyways, great effort by ARY and hope other channels hop on board too instead of buying distribution rights to bolly flicks
Regional languages got their own channels and they have created employment, but film industry was badly affected and don’t know how technician and labor related to industry.
