I think around 10 movies were released in pakistan last year. Yaar think about how this dead industry has impacted the livelihood of thousands of people, all the way from the tea boys, to the electricians, technicians, extras, musicians. People only think about the actors and directors but it's the ones at the bottom of hte ladder that have had the hardest hit. I was listening to NPR and they ran a story about a pakistani businessman who has made an effort to revive pakistani musicians and provide them with a platform to express their talent. Apparantly these men have been forced to give up their ancestral profession and take up odd jobs. I hope this effort by ARY to distribute pakistani movies last year and now to hodl these awards will encourage directors to make more content.
I also think it's high time that movies and tv shows be made in local languages. Growing up, i used to watch dramas and shows on PTV in punjabi as the afternoon slots were dedicated to regional programs. When i used to spend my summer vacation in murree, they'd play similar shows in some other language. Pata nahi un becharay artists ka kia hooa? none of the private channels air anything in regional languages though I hear a pashtu drama is coming out soon. anyways, great effort by ARY and hope other channels hop on board too instead of buying distribution rights to bolly flicks
Regional languages got their own channels and they have created employment, but film industry was badly affected and don't know how technician and labor related to industry.
Why are ppl ONLY fixating on the hemlines of women's outfits? grow up ppl, like it or not, this is how a certain population of the country dresses up and HAS been dressing up since the beginning of time. The only difference is that now you can't really show your legs on the streets which back in the 60s and 70s, you could without anyone harassing you. Can we come to terms with it already? It's getting old now.
The awards were very tastefully done and were very entertaining albeit a few glitches. Given that these were the first of their kind such glitches were expected. I really liked all the performances. Urwa was very elegant and didn't miss a step even though this is her first such performance, noor is a pro and didn't disappoint, Amna Illyas looked cute and enjoyed her number with khurram. saima has put on weight, as one does with age, but i was surprised to see how much energy she has. I thought everyone looked beautiful and happy. hope they continue holding these

didn't you read the article i shared from NPR on how these ppl have had to resort to odd jobs and even selling cloth on sidewalks :( sad state of affairs
I thought the songs and performances were lackluster except for a couple.
After all these years the Noor Jahan numbers still had more impact than the new age mediocre music from the new films (again except for a couple).
The background dancers are still not creating the impact that they should.
I thought Noor was surely going to lose her head literally in the dhamaal.
Sarwat Gilani is a terrible terrible host. Her voice sucks and the delivery was even worse. She could not have held her cue cards any closer to her face. Total disaster.
Fahad and Hamza saved the show and Ayesha did well to keep the show moving along.
Enjoyed the show anyways. After a longtime i watched a film award with Pakistani artists performing on Pakistani songs (mostly)...that was good.
I do not understand why people go crazy for Ali zafar, he cud not achieve anything that brings pride to the country. Yes still Shaan's comments were unnecessary, he came as part of O21 but stuck on Ali Zafar's speech. For me evening's most pleasant surprise was the trailer from "Poora Chand" starring elegant Sanam Saeed... along with Iman and Fahad. Really looking forward to this movie as the trailer was quite refreshing.
I agree, some of the outfits were quite inappropriate and indecent. Mathira's performance, I wondered how the old men and ARY's chief could watch it. I had to switch the channel at this particular performance.
The most awkward moment was Ayesha Khan winning best actress instead of Amina Sheikh... totally unfair.
Every time I watch a good movie trailor, the sound lets me down. Dialogue seems muffled and not enunciated well including background narration. Leaves a bad taste.
Amina Sheikh not winning was a big WTF moment even though ayesha khan only had a supporting role and could knk no way compete with amina. I get the sense that Amina Sheikh has ruffled some serious feathers in the industry. She hasn't been on tv for more than a year and her peers don't seem to have much of an opinion of her. if you recall the sanam saeed/ayesha omer episode of TUC the lighter side of life, both actresses picked saba qamar over amina sheikh in the rapid fire round even though amina sheikh is a far better actor. Maybe it's just me but amina sheikh has never come across as genuine. Whether it was her auctioning off her wardrobe for "charity" whose recipient she never revealed and slammed down anyone who found it in bad taste or her constant "bless you all" on her fb or trying too hard to say the appropriate thing. Most of all, it's her freudian slips that which reveal her not so nice personality which bug me the most, one that comes immediately to mind is her appearance on the nadia khan show a few years back where she made fun of her relatives from gujranwala for being paindoo and not being able to pronounce mohib's name. I recall she even copied their accent, jeez that was in bad taste
Hmm do not know all this story about Amina Sheikh, but she should win clearly if her acting is compared with Ayesha Khan who had a supporting role in WAR. And why Mahnoor Baloch was even nominated, i think they didnt have much options as most of the movies last year had male dominated story lines....
As for Saba Qamar, i am a huge fan of her acting now after watching Bunty and Sannata. She can display such a wide range of expressions, a true actress!
@dooree If Amina Sheikh has ruffled any feathers in the industry, it is probably because she is a far better actress than most and her achievements are a proof of this.
Ayesha Khan won best actress on viewers votes because everyone had seen Waar and very few knew about Lamha and Josh. The jury awards made a mistake by selecting Amna Ilyas for Zinda Baag, she was good but nowhere near as good as Amina Sheikhs role in Lamha
I've seen the NKS interview you are referring to because it had Mohib & Amina, thought it was a harmless joke?
