Such tools. They've got nothing better to blame than the "government". When asked who exactly it was that ordered them to shut down, they've got no answer. None...zilch...nothing. You call that journalism GEO? Not being able to answer who told you to shut down? Sure bud. This is nothing but another ploy by GEO to play innocent victim.
They deserved to be shut down. Not because I support Musharaf but because they have no journalistic standards. Freedom of the press means nothing when the press is as jahil as GEO. These are the same goons that blame Mush for sensationalizing everything by sensationalizing everything themselves. Pakistan deserves some real news coverage...none of this yellow journalism trash.
The only media outlet that can come close to claiming fair and balanced reporting is Dawn...and that doesnt say much.

Every statement makes sense, when backed by examples. Your arguments on lies being spread by Geo throughout the world, hence making the government shut down the networks, maybe a valid one. But then only if you can provide examples and some proof!
CBS and Co are western media made in US of A. I believe too many on GS take them serious. No wonder, you guys have never experienced the taste of "real" freedom of speech, expression and media. Therefore you guys need to live in Europe I suppose.
Brother, you want example? Let me give you one or two example:
9th of March: Government suspended CJ and send reference to Supreme Judicial Council.
GEO, ARY, AJJ and most other electronic media on 9th March: CJ is sacked.
True or false?
Well, CJ got sacked on 3rd November, and that is called Sacked.
When media started propaganda that CJ is sacked, Government came on media to tell that CJ is not sacked, CJ is suspension, still media kept lying that CJ is sacked. When government tried to explain, they start making fun of government, asking them to define that in Urdu and then twisting the meaning. *
None from media came out to explain to people or even talk about reference against CJ to SJC (which was main story), rather all were twisting the story around sacking and suspension or mishandling of CJ, trying to convey to the people that CJ is sacked unjustly and was mishandled.
Well, it was duty of Media to tell the truth and bring awareness to people that CJ was suspended and that reference is sent to panel of judges in SJC, and it would be they who would do the investigation. They should tell the people that suspension was necessary, because if he would be on duty, than he could influence the investigation (especially when one of allegations against CJ was that he is corrupt and uses his office to influence others). But then it is Pakistani media riding elephant of illusive power, wanted to humble the government with their lies, power of twisting the story, and propaganda. Thus, throughout the case, no media talked about reference or SJC but kept twisting the story about CJ.
Meanwhile Iftikhar also started playing with tolerance of government, and his lawyers started appealing to court on various things, including even the wording of reference, mean time Iftikhar was gathering support from public at the backing of media and political parties, whereas media through out were spreading lies and misinformation regarding references, and forced government on back foot, not because government was wrong, but because propaganda by media won the war.
In the end, CJ appealed to SC against suspension and SC instead of letting SJC to keep investigation, they stopped the SJC to investigate (Why stop SJC, no one knows).
Government throughout since March was telling media that to do unbiased reporting, but no use, media started thinking they are GOD, not realizing that everything was happening because government (well, military government) was just showing their tolerance and when their tolerance would go, nothing would stand. Response to demand by government that to be responsible, media answer was that we are independent and no one gave us independent, we fought for our independent and thus we can do whatever we like, whatever Sh**t we say and whatever lies we spread, no one should try to control us.
Same happened during Presidential election, where media played negative role and was propagating lies. For them, they were presenting to people that Wahhihuddin is hero and Musharraf is villain, plus that even if Musharraf wins the election, he has lost support of all, and that CJ who to media was new emperor would sack Musharraf from office, whatever NA does.
NA contains representative of people, and they voted Musharraf overwhelmingly. 57 percent of all NA votes fell to President, still new emperor Ch Iftikhar with perception of new found power started playing cat and mouse game with president. Election result should not be declared, we will see what to do, 7 judge bench court would decide, … no, no … 9 judge bench would decide, well, well … how about now 11 judge bench would decide … and F* to F* all BS. All throughout media was playing cricket with assumption, perception, new power of SC, toothless general … and so on.
Election happened on 6th October and case kept lingering until one day court decided … we cannot hear the case until after 10 days, because one judge is going on his daughter wedding, and thus would not be available for a week, as if President, parliament, and whole country should wait, so that one judge from 11 judge bench (that started with 7 judge bench) go on holiday for a week so that he can attend his daughter wedding. To me, that was F-O thing to do.
At the same time, media was having discussion forums that what law says and what should be done, as if they are going to decide the fate of President, Parliament and country on their program through their panel guest and anchor. Geo Musharraf Genay dou Musharraf started, and impression was given as if Media is master and there are two monkeys, one is government and other is opposition (that includes from lawyers to idiots). Even Musharraf announcement of taking off the uniform became a joke for media, and speculative matter, about if new army chief would kick Musharraf or would support him.
Situation is that, Media became so much in illusion with their new illusive realization of power that they though their lies and propaganda with some corrupt anchors has given them ultimate power, that in one private meeting, one media head (I believe GEO) made statement that they are so strong that they can make the government fall within 3 days.
I think that it was enough for government, and then Musharraf seems to have got angry and then put on his ‘Commandos Uniform’ and with one move, told media that if they do not understand the difference between sacking and suspension and keep translating suspension as sacking, then lets do some sacking and show how sacking can be done, not of CJ but whole judiciary.
If Judges think that they are emperor and President, Parliament as well as nation can wait for 10 days, so that one judge daughter is getting married, then tell the judges that they do not need to take 10 days for wedding, they can take permanent holiday after sacking.
As for media, they also needed some dose, and thus all games of media, their lying, their propaganda, their hypocrisy, and illusion that no one gave them independence but they took their independence, also went with one order.*

The system is more important than personalities and Mushy is damaging Pakistan by destroying institutions, in order to hang onto power.
