Artificial Jewelry

Does anyone know how to keep artificial silver jewelry from going black?

keep them wrapped up in a tissue paper or cloth.

cat urine mixed with a table spoon of sugar and honey if available... adds a bit of sparkle

Well Mehnaz why don't you use a silver polish of some sort.

I dunno Maj! :)

I bought some earrings that I only wore once ... kept it wrapped up in a tissue type of cloth only to discover they turned black anyway.

I should try the silver polish.

Before you try the silver polish try this method which will only take ten minutes of your time depending black the earrings maybe. All you need is a dispensable toothbrush and your toothpaste (not the gel type). Apply the a bead of toothpaste to your toothbrush and rub liberally where needed on the earring. Wash and dry immediately with a shammy type cloth. Rub with a cloth for final polishing and voila : )

I've always done it on ring and chains. Its practically the same results without having to worry about corrosive cleaners or yellow/whitish discolouration.

Thanks Coconut. :) I'll try it.

It sucks when I buy jewelry, wear it once, pack it away for a few months only to discover the next time I go to wear it that it is black.

Mehnaz, coco and suroor gave some useful suggestions actually.

Usually just as extra precaution i have that my mom..keep them in cotton..then she puts them in pink tissue..and then she puts them in air tight things..a ziplog will do as well :-) and if my silver jewellery turns dark..i use toothpowder that can be obtain from a desi store..specially colgate powder is good.

In my opinion colgate powder works better than jewellery solutions i have tried.
