Arthritis

So you already know that it is given that you will be facing Arthritis perhaps end of your 40’s, what are best way to prevent it or at least delay it. Seeing my mom in pain everyday and remember seeing my nanni in my childhood same way, it runs in genes. I would like to know all about what exercises, vitamins and foods that are best for prevention. Someone told me calcium intake in foods or vitamins are no good and it won’t do anything for the arthritis. Then what will do?

Re: Arthritis

someone please move it to health. Thanks

Re: Arthritis

Which form of arthritis will she be facing? Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Re: Arthritis

^ whichever form of arthritis it is, since it is in her genes..she needs to consult it with real doctor.

Re: Arthritis

She is already going under treatments for her arthritus. I'm inquiring about myself as there is a big possibility for that to happen in the future. I am not 100% sure but I think it is Rheumatoid she has.

Re: Arthritis

Umm.. lookign around on google, most sites seem to say that preventative measures for rheumatoid arthritis are not known because the precise cause is unknown :bummer:

http://www.webmd.com/hw/rheumatoid_arthritis/aa19581.asp

There is no known way to prevent rheumatoid arthritis because the exact cause of the disease is not known.

It is important for people who fear they may be at risk of rheumatoid arthritis to realize that at this time there are no medications to take or lifestyle modifications to make that can prevent rheumatoid arthritis. Only after the disease is diagnosed can you take measures to control the disease.

Re: Arthritis

If its rheumatoid arthritis then it is impossible to prevent on your own since it is caused by the inflammatory autoimmune disorder. Again best way to treat is Go Consult With your family doctor :smack: asking on this forum can’t help!

Re: Arthritis

ok what about other forms of Arthritis? how can they be delayed or prevented.

Re: Arthritis

jal pari: my mom has the same problem.....shse in her mid 50's ...she has severe problem with her fingers and legs...Fat free soya milk is really good for bone development plus some other vitamins which doctors have prescribed for her help her. She gets injections on her fingers every few months to help her function.

What I recommend everyone is try avoiding these desi masala's and try to drink lots of milk and fibre.

Re: Arthritis

Thanks Furqan. My mom has it in her knees, she just got 5 weeks injections in Pakistan which did very little. It started mild when she was in her late 40's and now it has gotten worse in 3-4 years. I know there is big possibility that eventually I will get it too. Seeing her in pain everyday just reminds me that my turn will come too. I know it might sound silly right now, but I want to do everything possible in my hands to change this. What about taking sulfate stuff, would that make a difference?

Re: Arthritis

yes there are supplements that contain Glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate for the arthritis but I doubt that people who didnt get diagnosed of arthritis start taking b4hand.

Glucosamine is an amino acid produced by ur own body for the formation/repair of cartilage and chondroitin sulfate is part of protein that gives elasticity to the cartilage..keep in mind this is for the osteoarthritis...I am not sure if it is applied same for the other forms of arthritis. I really hesitate to tell u what to do on ur own without consulting ur doctor....

[added] oh and if u dont wana take supplements then try eating apples/blueberries/take stuff with all the vitamins..specially E/A/B and zince, iron. Drink orange juices, eat egg /fish/nuts and drink green tea. Basically all the healthy food except fatty stuff!! Try to keep ur weight normal and average that will help u too. I hope this helps :)

Re: Arthritis

My mother started suffering from it for a year now, reducing the in take of

1) Salt.
2) meat (particularly red meat).
3) Daals (chick peas etc) particular, sabit daal etc sabit maash/ sabit moongi.

helped her a lot. Dont know if it is applicable in all cases but that helped my mum.

Re: Arthritis

Thank you evilmastermind and Najim for good tips. As I was reading on I found out that building up muscles are extremely good also. Strong muscles are required to carry bones and help putting less pressure on them. I am already a bit under weight so that is something I should look into.
